“The idea we’re puppets of Putin is so preposterous that you have to wonder what they’re smoking over at Nato HQ,” said Greenpeace, which has a history of antagonism with the Russian government, which arrested several of its activists on a protest in the Arctic last year.

Andrew Pendleton, a campaigner at Friends of the Earth, added: “Perhaps the Russians are worried about our huge wind and solar potential and have infiltrated the UK government.”

Thats a google recordlol
I seen one documentary on fracking in the USA a massive country like that and it did show water got polluted, also the trial they did at Lytham st Annes outside Blackpool was stopped immediately as it caused a near earthquake in Blackpool so much the tower shook - If the Government announced it was going to open coalmines there would be uproar , but Fracking is ok more evidence is needed also the sites will be up north as I imagine this gas is tapping in to the massive coal reserves under ground that Thatcher abandoned, technically now coal could be cleaned to burn in our power stations also the technology of mining it would have improved immensely on extracting it, yet we shut a then super pit mine in the Midlands just recently with a railtrack to the power station built in 1965, and go for imported mined coal from Colombia to burn in the same powers station?
Its mad like I stated this country just sells its family silver, and relies too much on imports for the sake of it yet coal mining is dangerous Fracking is not??????????????????????

They're both dangerous and riddiculous in this day and age.

Big decision in parliament this week re scotland's sustainable energy and 2020, I believe. They're at 80pc renewable currently.
Fairly good report on R4 last night, including a leaked report where iirc Ledsome(sp) lied regarding achieving targets as the government pulled support.

A) Doesn't sound very green.

B) Bet your imports are costing more now.
No English coal for ages all English top class coal was utilised by the power stations as its a far greater quality I had to use EU imported coal mainly now with Columbia getting that contract it's available it is superior to EU shale coal price wise it's better slightly dearer, but hotter than the EU coal - Not as good as British coal I burn logs environmental sawdust ones which are brilliant clean fuel I have had a central heating burner since 1987 provides all my hot water heats up 8 radiators far cheaper than gas, and electric burn mainly logs with do not give out fumes they are sulphur free!
I thought Corbyn in Labour is considering opening certain coal mines as coal can be cleaned factories make clean coal very expensive, but brilliant for heat!
I mentioned it in response to fracking posted on this thread on how safe is that?

I think it needs a lot more OBJECTIVE research before being rolled out, with more transparency, and independent monitoring, not the self-policing that Camoron instigated. Those conducting it also need to be able to prove they can rectify any potential damage, rather than just walk away from it, imo.
We should be supporting our technology and manufacturing in developing sustainable solutions imo, yanno, like other advanced countries.

The first fracking site almost caused an earthquake in Lytham st Annes!
USA the water table was affected and they have a mass of land!

Doesn't Portugal run entirely from sustainable energy for days at a time?

We might not have their sun - although we do have a lot more space to collect it in - but we certainly have the wind and the waves.
