They are, but that is because Cameron and now May are trying to weasel out of the referendum result. If they were genuine they would have activated Article 50 the day after the referendum, which would have concentrated minds, provided a framework (and some certainty) and brought about meaningful negotiation.

Instead we have this absurdity, that is damaging the economy (probably deliberately) and bringing about confusion.

Couldn't agree more. IMO, the Tories are working out whether the greater loss is to 'renege of democracy' or to go off into such an uncertain horizon.

But aren't the Austrians looking after their interests like the UK have always done in the EU? Surely, you can't blame 3 million Belgiums and the Austrians for sticking up for their interests?

'Brexit means Brexit' but the Tories are making a right mess of it. They have not only dealt their own hand but shown it over and over. Passporting for the financial sector, tariffs on cars, EU migrants and the affect it would have on the economy and the NHS, money, 'hard or soft' border in Ireland, Scotland wanting to stay in the EU.
Scotland will never stay in the EU as Spain would veto it with the basque region always wanting independence Even the French are not interested in Scotland starting separate talks- you assume the red headed one will win a 2nd indepedant vote too the polls show the further behind now than the last defeat - they rely too much on the generous Barnett formula that gives the more cash the Wales and Northern Ireland combined!
If 5 million Scottish people can survive indepedly when the export 65 percent of their goods to us in the U.K. It's laughable bluster from Sturgeon to please he fanatic 3000 conference talks the talk I doubt she will walk the walk the last vote on independence was all based on high oil prices whoops it's a good job they stayed with us as they would be bankrupt by now!

Spain might have vetoed Scotland separating from an EU member and seeking readmission to the EU as it would set a precedent for the Catalans to follow. However it could be different if Scotland were to seek independence from a non EU member and then seek to join. No precedent any more. Unless, of course, Spain plan on leaving the EU.
