With the word control yes, the common market when we first joined because of no political union free movement was not an agenda they set that rule not us eg that's why the out vote won the only free movement I can remember it was easier to go abroad on holiday when we joined then we had political treaty changes and the rest is history

Back in 1973 we had immigration but not the bulk of it from the EU as there were 7 countries Bruce not 27!
here is a great google for you -

I don't expect evidence to play any part in your thinking, but there are roughly 8 million foreign nationals living in the UK, of which about 1.3 million come from the A8 nations. What's more, we let in more migrants from non-EU countries than we do from EU ones, but that's something that's been mentioned many times on this thread already.

I will ask you though, why is immigration bad?

When did you first hear the term 'the four freedoms'.....I hadn't until the vote for Brexit came along....

Trade is about the sale and purchase of goods and services, only in the minds of the EU does it concern the free movement of people. If eventually the EU does a trade deal with the USA or India, there will be no mention of free movement of people.......

The best companies need the best talent for the job. The best universities need the best students and academics. That means giving them freedom to attract whomever they wish to do it. Unless you think some wonk in Whitehall knows more about your business than you do?

As for the term, I've known about it for a while now, just as I've heard that their innovation mantra is 'Open Innovation, Open Science And Open To The World'.

Bruce immigration is not bad we need it as we have a big skill shortages as our manufacturing industries need rebuilding tell me whats wrong with controlled immigration i.e. a person from abroad applies for a job in THIS country on merit and is successful in the job market great not a free for all lets get over there job or no job- try other independent countries they adopt this system not branded as racist just sensible pragmatism of filling a skill shortage that's why a work visa imo is the answer when we leave the EU!

I appreciate that you cannot grasp what the rest of us are on about. I also appreciate that the UK can trade all around the world with any product it wants, so why do you keep repeating the same question . I was tempted to write the next bit in capital letters for you because I know that you will not see it ...'Its all about the trade terms and tariffs'......

You may want to re-read what you write. 'By not having a trade deal between the EU and Mersocur countries' your claim is that it is 'holding the UK back'. Blatantly not true. I could write it in capitals but ...

'It's all about trade terms and tariffs'. Is that like the trade terms with China that meant the UK relaxed visas restrictions on Chinese citizens coming to the UK? Many of whom do not return home and stay in the UK or go to Ireland. 'Trade terms' with any country will involve visa relaxations. So there will be more people coming into the UK who can also not return home and stay in the UK.

If you are implying that 'tariffs' between the UK and Argentina are 'holding back the UK' which tariff is that and which product/good/financial service are not being traded because of said tariff?

Camel jizz?

So you're happy for people coming here if they work?

What, you've done the maths or you've cut and pasted an article.....

So, having done the maths or whatever, what conclusion have you drawn or what point do you wish to make......
The simple point is, that our total net immigration was 333k

167k were here to study

43% of the total are from the EU

So what's the total net immigration from the EU excluding students?

Not quite what old Nige was trying to portray is it?
