Can anyone who thinks the EU has stopped UK PLC from trading with the rest of the world explain how it has not stopped Germany from doing so successfully?

It's all about trying to get Free Trade Deals and the negotiations around protectionism. With 28 countries all wanting to protect something, Cars, Agricultural foodstuffs or whatever, then deals are difficult to obtain, therefore we end up with various tariffs being applied etc etc. With one country negotiating with just the UK, then these things are much simpler to do and more likely to result in tariff free outcomes.....it's not about being able to trade but on what terms for what products......

Swings and roundabouts though isn't it? Those extra concessions also come with potential access to a much larger market for the country we're negotiating with. There's a rather sad perception at the moment that Davies et al are approaching things in a very zero sum way rather than looking for win-win relationships. After all, anyone knows that zero sum only works if you're not working with the other person for any length of time, which hardly seems likely to be the case for our largest trading partner.

The Mercosur-EU trade deal negotiations have been ongoing for decades. Just one of the sticking points has been with Ireland and beef, because Argentina produces huge amounts of the stuff at lower prices so Ireland and France have been complaining. So the 4 countries of Mercosur cannot get a trade deal with the 28 countries of the EU because of an argument over beef. Can you not see how this is holding the UK back.....

Likely to be quite common though in one way, shape or form. We also have to consider that we're walking away from a customs union with our largest trading partners because too many foreigners come to this country. How important is trade really?

We haven't walked away from anything yet. We have voted to leave the EU not Europe. We are still here, eating Irish beef, drinking French wine and driving German cars, and I'm pretty sure that the deals will be done to continue that after we have left the EU. For me the key issue is control, for the UK to have control of what regulations it wants to set, what laws it wants, what countries it wishes to trade with, who it wants in the country etc...you seem to think it's a single issue, but it's not.......

No need to get upset. Have a walk in the fresh air, enjoy life.......
They get nasty the same crew @peteblue , as groucho pointed out have a debate , but being nasty or vindictive, oh blow it I am off for my medication!
all of us are going around in circles out has been voted lets just see what happens hey?
The insults on here some are funny and some are a bit OTT imo!

No-one has said it's a single issue.

However May has already decreed that she's not prepared to sacrifice freedom of movement for single market access - due to the electorates view.

She's therefore prepared to risk the economy due to immigration

Would you accept free movement in return for single market access?

Bruce this is the problem if you lose a valid argument its immigration as a last resort answer maybe people who voted out just wanted control, and sovereignty back as an individual country?
Take the political union out of the EU as it was and just have a trading block with freedom to trade anywhere and thats the magic bullet but the EU want power and its not on imo!
I noticed the EU is itself a member of the WTO - yet if we deal outside some countries tariffs stop the trade!
