That is not how it is coming across. So what are the benefits of staying in the EU?

  • Economic benefits. The CBI calculates the net benefit of EU membership to the UK at around 5% of GDP. In cash terms in excess of £75bn a year.
  • 71% of CBI members and 67% of SMEs recognise and agree that EU membership benefits their businesses
  • More than 3 million people in the UK are in employment because of our EU membership
  • Freedom of movement - the right to live, work and retire anywhere in Europe
  • Increased protection of worker rights, consumer rights, and civil liberties
  • Greatest period of peace and security across Europe
  • Cross border cooperation in fighting crime and terrorism
  • Higher global influence as part of the EU
Our membership of the EU affords us greater prosperity as a nation, offers greater protection and rights to our citizens, and increases our influence in global affairs whilst aiding the maintenance of our security.

The EU is far from perfect and needs considerable change within, nevertheless the benefits have always outweighed the negatives in my opinion.

So how many voted remain....Just 24%.....

A lot of people who contribute a lot to society weren't eligible to vote. Like some Doctors and nurses etc. I know people in here who are additional rate tax payers who weren't eligible to vote because they don't hold UK passports. I guess if it goes that far they'll need visa's to work here in the future, but more likely the job will just move to somewhere within the EU and they'll probably take their tax contributions and go with it.

Fair point, that, but also, as pete said, a lot of people didn't even bother with it. Loads I know (or friends of friends) did the same. Literally their future is at stake, "nah mate not arsed who cares hahaha"... Does my head in ffs, you've been given the privilege to decide your future and you're just snubbing it off to show how much of a LAD you are. SMH.

Yes mate, as there is so much more to be decided, I get the feeling a lot is still at stake.

Of course there is , it's huge and many including some of those right at the centre seem to have absolutely no clue where it'll take us .

I don't understand why nobody is supposed to want to speak about this , with the exception of war and in some cases including conflict , this is the biggest decision this country has ever taken . We don't stop talking about elections or where governments are going wrong despite fixed term parliaments , I talk about Trump despite not have a vote in that election .

This is massive for this country and needs to be treated as such .

Esk you getting the google bug of Bruce Wayne watch out its nasty!lol

Same here really. I get it, especially for more remote areas, but they (ones in Scotland at least) had quite a big turnout IIRC, something closer to 85% for one of the Western Isles, which is quite frankly shocking given how they have about 1-2 stations per island/10 miles...

I fail to grasp how you made up this absolute nonsense you wrote - my post was quite literal, stating I was surprised with the low turnout for the whole vote. From which orifice did you pull out that that makes me a "remoaner" or any kind of anything?

Honestly Joey not everyone in the world is against you. Get a grip.

Edit: missed the opportunity to call you a stereotypical brexiter/leaver or something here, didn't I? :(
Your against me and the UK is that not enough for youlol

A few of the business reasons are fine, remembering that the CBI wanted us to join the Euro as well. The freedom of movement is for many UK people not really a benefit. We do not need the EU for worker rights, consumer rights and civil liberties, we are a grown up civilised country. The peace and security aspect has been brazenly stolen by Brussels when in fact it is NATO that guarantees peace. Cross border cooperation in fighting crime does not require EU membership. The final point about global influence is also a bit of a debate as there is no doubt that the EU's global influence is heavily improved, and accepted as such, by the UK's membership.

I believe that the EU will continue upon its path towards a USE and at some point in the future the Euro will be mandated for all, shengen will be mandated, an EU military will supersede NATO and all current opt outs will be removed.

I wholeheartedly voted to join the Common Market, and I would wholeheartedly vote to join something similar, but I don't want any part of an EU superstate. We will do just fine on our own but if we absolutely had to join in a bigger union then I would prefer to become the 51st State......

No mate I don't need Google to know the benefits we all enjoy ;)
you mean we did enjoy but we will leave them!
Im still perplexed only big business enjoyed those benefits at the public expense of a loss of 8.5 billion each year!
free trade yes political union NO
I voted twice to be in the common market free trade agreement and was a bit annoyed over our high membership fee but it made sense the Thatcher got us a rebate then Blair gave some of it back then they imposed rules on us that were ridiculous - we will be free from lawyers who when a soldier in Afghanistan chase his enemy and he drowns in a river he is found guilty of a war crime via the human rights acts
which should be replaced by the British Bill of rights yes the one that PM - DC promised us!
It will stop the greedy lawyers making money on the backs of our heroes!
