What is it with the overwhelming interest in Farage? He's another person who's been mercilessly pursued by a press full of political sadists unable to accept they lost a referendum. Remember when they claimed he was instrumental to the whole Russia-Trump case? When are the Guardian going to issue a full apology to Nigel Farage for dragging his name through the mud for years? All based on lies. Who really believes a single thing these people print?

The people that wrote this 'exclusive': Stephanie Kirchgaessner, Nick Hopkins and Luke Harding: The US Investigations correspondent based in Washington DC, the Guardian's Executive Editor for News and the Guardian foreign correspondent for news. How did they confirm this story? Or did they just not care if it was true?

Exclusive: FBI interested in former Ukip leader’s ties with people connected to US president and WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange

Sources who spoke to the Guardian said it was Farage’s proximity to people at the heart of the investigation that was being examined as an element in their broader inquiry into how Russia may have worked with Trump campaign officials to influence the US election.

“One of the things the intelligence investigators have been looking at is points of contact and persons involved,” one source said. “If you triangulate Russia, WikiLeaks, Assange and Trump associates the person who comes up with the most hits is Nigel Farage.

“He’s right in the middle of these relationships. He turns up over and over again. There’s a lot of attention being paid to him.”

Yes the referendum was 'won' by the leave campaign. And what a glittering prize it's been.

Farage was clearly the most vocal cheerleader of the campaign, a useful idiot who appeals the low iq flag shaggers.

Any of the faces for the leave campaign are fair game for this 'merciless pursuit' seeing as all the evidence we see so far is the campaign was won on downright lies with the very occasional half truth mixed in.

I hope he's hounded until the day he dies.

I still don't understand the vitriol against Farage since he doesn't hold elected office and isn't on the gravy train, but leaving that aside. Can you tell me about an election campaign that was won where lies were not told? I'm pretty sure Remain campaign had plenty during the period in question e.g. Leave Lies? Remainers need to look in the mirror

I can also remember General Elections decided on Manifesto commitments that were later reneged on when the party had won. An example would be Blair promising a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty (the one that got voted down in a referendum in Ireland and the Netherlands). We never did have a referendum in the UK. It was a behind the scenes grubby deal as usual. No democratic consent was given. There are loads of examples from present and past governments at all levels with things like this.
