I am in the South but the indications on both sides of the border are that SF has swept aside the traditional Nationalist parties. Unionism seems to be all over the place.

Mary Lou McDonald is wiping the floor with FF, FG and Labour in the Republic. Head and shoulders above anyone else in the Dáil.

Excellent. So when NI joins ROI and UK’s money disappears, and the Unionists are not very happy, what do you think will happen next ?…..

You miss the point that the Eu sends more to the U.K. than the other way around. So any tariffs actually work to the UK’s advantage….Meanwhile we are adding, not replacing, to our exports…….
Pete mate, this is head in the sand stuff.

I appreciate your polite debate on this for so long, but I really fear for many thousands of UK workers as this moves on.

A huge amount of what you call EU exports to the UK comprise parts for UK products. These are going to become uneconomical soon.

Look at the parts in an average Vauxhall/Opel or Nissan. These plants are heading one way...I am really sorry.

Ah come on Pete. I never said anything about NI joining the Republic. I doubt that will happen in my lifetime.

You are however correct that UK taxpayers are funding a statelet that has a huge proportion of public servants with SFA private production apart from agriculture.

We have nothing to do with that mate. The UK decided all this well before our time.

Unionists are never happy BTW. Never! Never! Never!

We have enough problems keeping this Republic on track without taking on a load of people who are not committed to this State.

Feel like we need a Father Ted 'small -> far away' explanation to show how the percentage of trade affected is more important than total trade affected (before we even get onto the fact that one side is made up of 27 nations)

Even without the above evidence, I mean at a very base level it’s basically an argument that a market of 60 mill are exporting and importing at a better and greater ratio then a market of 500 mill and the 500 mill are worse off then the 60 mill because they were dependent on the 60 mill market, I mean come on, your not selling many cars with that argument are you.

Luckily there are enough sane people in the republic who will never vote SF.
Myself included

Mate, they don't represent my views, be clear. I have serious differences with some of their views.

However, the reality is that Mary Lou has made SF much more acceptable to a huge number in the South compared with Adams. She regularly wipes the floor with Government Ministers in the Dáil.

I am actually at a loss as to who I would vote for. So disillusioned with our political parties.

Could be worse...UK and NI are all over the place.

I won't start on the USA.
