I have left this tread but can't see anyone else that will answer you.
I am not happy how it has been handled, and as I have previously said if it was Boris as pm or staying in the EU I would have on retrospect voted to stay.
There dosnt seem to be a clear path on offer from the government at all on the issue,
I expected myself ,it would take years to fully unravel the UK from the EU and there would be bumps along the way, but we're and what is the direction this government taking us?
I don't know and it looks like they don't either.
It's been a complete mess and I as a leave voter cannot say any different in truth.
My feeling on membership of the EU hasn't changed as a personal viewpoint, but if on balance you are asking me has it been a success up to now and handled in a decent manner the answer has to be no it hasn't , (although it not all one sided on that that score).
Forgive me for popping in and out again , but Pete seems to be the only leaver posting at the moment and I felt your post deserves a reply.
I know I am repeating myself here. I was an Irish Civil Servant in three Government Departments over 37 years. I was fed up flying to Brussels for interminable meetings and the attitude of the Commission often had me seething. They are cold bureaucratic and quick to fine a Member State for any irregularities.

However, membership gives us a tariff free access to a market of some 500 million people. This is vital for our economy.

Better to stay in, enjoy the benefits to our exporters, try to change from within than to figuratively pick up your own ball and go off the pitch. The rest will continue playing without you and, probably, make things more difficult.

I really feel for UK workers whose jobs were dependant on EU imports and exports.

My initial post, was a reaction to what I perceive as a disregard for leave voters.

I know that there are some zealots who are sting clinging onto the idea that we will reverse Brexit - we won't (at least not for a long time because the appetite in the UK and the EU is not there).

But, the entire Brexit policy seems to be focused on three things:

Complaining about the WA and EU deal
Ridiculous policy based on nostalgia, fantasy and nationalism
Culture wars and inventing ghost enemies to distract from a lack of strategy

Given we are where we are and we have a Government with a 80 seat majority - I would've expected something more convincing in terms of strategy and direction. There seems to be nothing.
I am afraid that you seem to have a Government that is clueless in terms of forward planning. Since Trump was ousted, the UK is pretty short of economic friends.

Mooo Brexit bullpoop is in the shed...

Chickens come home to roost...

Yet we seem to be doing OK, all Covid restrictions ended, U.K. economy growing, unemployment reducing all the time as more new jobs are created. We have enough friends……

What I cannot understand - perhaps some of the Brexit advocates can answer - is if you voted for Brexit and had an expectation about what that would look like, are you happy with how Brexit is being implemented?

Because it seems rather like the entire "top team" of Brexit seem more intent on "riling remainers" than actually realising any sensible Brexit policy. Rees-Mogg is a complete joke as a Brexit minister - he is not a credible person but he is now leading the UK search for Brexit opportunities (or crowdfunding it based on recent activity).

It's in everyone's interest for this to be as painless as possible - so I'm surprised more aren't questioning the progress and implementation some months on.

Are you happy with progress/what has currently been delivered/direction of travel or was winning simply the goal and you've moved on now?

I think I'd be pretty annoyed if having voted for Brexit, a massive shift in UK political direction, the party I'd voted to "get it done" treated it as a joke.
I am probably not your target audience for this, but my view on why Rees-Mogg is in his post and doing what he does is because Boris and co probably think it will appeal to those who voted them in. Its cynical and unproductive, but it's what they do.

It’s round the back of @peteblue’s pub.

I think it's utterly unbelievable to still deny Russian interference in Brexit be it for or against. The links and ties are literally all there if you're willing to look. I know some don't want to, but it should be so painfully obvious anyway. It's not rocket science to see what Russia have been up to. And the Conservative governments who presided over the entire Brexit debate have wilfully turned a blind eye for years. Enjoying, the Russian fruits instead. Now including that war in Europe!

I'm well aware of why, but there are leave voters who, while a disagreed with their reasons, had credible reasons for wanting out of the EU.

I fail to see how the current UK strategy reflects that. Rees-Mogg is a prime example of that. He may rile remainers, but at some point, something credible needs to come from Brexit - rather than imperial units, little flags and moaning about agreements we negotiated and signed.

Who is doing ok? The vastly increased numbers using food banks or those on the NHS queues?
UK economy edging up from a pitiful base; difficult to go any lower.
All Covid restrictions ended despite Doctors saying it is premature
Zero hours work at Macdonalds; plenty of work if you want it.
We have enough friends? Really? How much is enough?
You’re not in the real world Pete, just soaking up the Torygraph twaddle.

Horribly simplistic though it may be, there's probably enough happy with that.

Plus, go look at the Daily Express and Mail. We're apparently all okay. Still blaming the EU for everything and nothing or claiming they hinder stuff. Alternatively the pandemic or this current conflict is put forward as the main source of any woes.

Now, for a lot of us (and I include leave voters in this), a strategy is desirable and frankly much needed. But for a good many? Nah, wave the flags by jingo.

Depressing thought.

*Wonders how a collapsed executive in NI meaning no budget can be classed as doing ok*

*Remembers that we all agreed earlier that no one gave a toss about NI before or after*

*Leaves*

Or any fair-minded commentator…..
Apart from you, and the Tories, and Farage, are you able to point at any of these fair-minded commentators who think we are doing so well?

I don't know if you have taken off your facemask yet in crowded places, but it does surely seem time to take off those rose tinted spectacles.
