I know I am repeating myself here. I was an Irish Civil Servant in three Government Departments over 37 years. I was fed up flying to Brussels for interminable meetings and the attitude of the Commission often had me seething. They are cold bureaucratic and quick to fine a Member State for any irregularities.I have left this tread but can't see anyone else that will answer you.
I am not happy how it has been handled, and as I have previously said if it was Boris as pm or staying in the EU I would have on retrospect voted to stay.
There dosnt seem to be a clear path on offer from the government at all on the issue,
I expected myself ,it would take years to fully unravel the UK from the EU and there would be bumps along the way, but we're and what is the direction this government taking us?
I don't know and it looks like they don't either.
It's been a complete mess and I as a leave voter cannot say any different in truth.
My feeling on membership of the EU hasn't changed as a personal viewpoint, but if on balance you are asking me has it been a success up to now and handled in a decent manner the answer has to be no it hasn't , (although it not all one sided on that that score).
Forgive me for popping in and out again , but Pete seems to be the only leaver posting at the moment and I felt your post deserves a reply.
However, membership gives us a tariff free access to a market of some 500 million people. This is vital for our economy.
Better to stay in, enjoy the benefits to our exporters, try to change from within than to figuratively pick up your own ball and go off the pitch. The rest will continue playing without you and, probably, make things more difficult.
I really feel for UK workers whose jobs were dependant on EU imports and exports.
