If you’re Putin and you have designs on former Soviet countries, how do you go about it? Well, you’d probably lay the ground work by destabilizing the US and EU politically. By bankrolling Trump and Brexit he achieved this.
basically Pete, Putin used your rose tinted nationalism to his advantage. It worked so well that he has you gloating about a weakened Europe.
To be fair Pete, the argument that the EU "kept peace in Europe" was always based on the fact that it made wars between member nations much less attractive. I don't think it was ever the argument that the EU would stop Russia from invading Ukraine, not least because it has no armed forces of its own (which is something you were strongly against if I recall). They began as an economic entity and have expanded into a diplomatic and policy entity, but they're not a military entity.
That's not to say that the behaviour of the west in relation to Ukraine isn't incredibly cowardly, but the EU is hardly alone in that, as Biden as already had his "just give them Sudetenland and they'll be happy" moment and I can hardly see the UK going to war against Russia, can you?

Even our small corner of the internet was visited by Russian (most likely) Bots in this thread in the build up to the vote. Heaven only knows what deluged onto Twitter etc etc.
But they are clever, and sophisticated. We were only made aware of them, (as in, we thought the posts were wums mainly) by a poster who actually works tracking and breaking them for some security company.

If you roll back a bit in time. Who opened up the EU borders ?, who wouldn’t give Cameron even the smallest ‘win’ just prior to the Brexit vote ?, who pushed through Nordstream 2 thereby giving Russia the opportunity to hold the EU by the nuts and bypass Ukraine and Poland ? who used to be in the East German Stasi ?, and even now which country would not allow the U.K. RAF to overfly their country nor issue export Licenses for arms from Lithuania to Ukraine ?…..
