While the cartoon is aimed at humiliating the U.K., I think it’s actually correct…this is an EU problem and they should come up with a solution for a mess of their making……

"If I recall well the main slogan of the referendum campaign is 'we take back control'", said European Commission's vice president Margaritis Schinas.
"Since the UK took back control it's up to them now to find the necessary measures to operationalise the control they took back."

Continually insult Europeans, act in bad faith then act outraged when there's no special treatment.... I know who the 'moaners' are and it isn't the 'Remoaners'. Brexiteers are the very definition of sore winners.

All you are doing is proving what I’ve said before, the EU or rather France is behaving just like Belarus, yet are doing exactly the same on its west coast. If the U.K. were to pick up migrants and just sail straight back to France and drop them off, what would they do ?…..

Well, what would we do if French boats tried to d RT op them here? Outside the EU we are impotent

I love the fact that our remoaners are still defending the EU in the illegal trade of migrants. Just stop and think about it for one minute, the EU with all its supposedly high minded laws and human rights is hosting, and in some instances abetting, the illegal movement of migrants controlled by criminal gangs…and then blaming the U.K. for being ‘more attractive’ than the EU. Only in the world of European politics could you make this up…..

I’m afraid it is, and the UN says it is as it involves criminal gangs bypassing normal laws …the onus is on the EU to crack down on this illegal trade….

“Human trafficking and migrant smuggling are complex phenomena that affect people in different ways. While sometimes linked, these are separate crimes.

Human trafficking involves the recruitment, movement or harbouring of people for the purpose of exploitation - such as sexual exploitation, forced labour, slavery or organ removal. Victims can be children or adults, boys, girls, men or women, and are trafficked by the use of improper means such as the threat or use of force, fraudulent schemes, deception, or abuse of power. It can occur within a country or across borders. Human trafficking is therefore characterized by an act (recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring, or receipt of people), specific means (threats or use of force, deception, fraud, abuse of power, or abusing someone's vulnerable condition) for the purpose of exploitation (for example sexual exploitation, forced labour, slavery or organ removal).

Example of human trafficking

A person takes a job as a domestic worker in a different part of her country under the promise of a good salary and benefits. However, the person turns out to be subject to degrading work conditions and does not receive a salary.

Act: the person's recruitment and transportation to and harbouring in a different part of her country; means: deception and fake promise of good working conditions; and the purpose is labour exploitation for domestic work.

In contrast to human trafficking which can take place both domestically and internationally, migrant smuggling is a crime that takes place only across borders. It consists in assisting migrants to enter or stay in a country illegally, for a financial or material gain. Smugglers make a profitable business out of migrants' need and/or desire to enter a country and the lack of legal documents to do so. International law requires governments to criminalize migrant smuggling, but not those who are smuggled. Since migrants give their consent to the smuggling venture, mostly due to the lack of regular ways to migrate, they are not considered victims in absolute terms. However, smuggled migrants are often put in dangerous situations by smugglers (such as a hazardous sea crossings), and might therefore become victims of other crimes during the smuggling process, including severe human rights violations.

Example of migrant smuggling

A group of people charges money from migrants to drive them across a border into another country, thus bypassing the official entry requirements and border controls of the destination country. If migrants do not have enough money, the group takes whatever valuable possessions they have as payment.”

For clarity .. human trafficking is very much illegal I agree

People crossing the Chanel in boats seeking asylum is very much not .

It is organised by criminals, sometimes under threat to the migrant, and is a crime. The people in the boats may not themselves be committing a crime but the provision of the boat, the taking of payment, and the intention to bypass normal immigration rules and documentation is a crime, and it’s taking place in the EU…..

Same thing in many instances.

To be honest, the solution would be the UK and the EU signing up to a scheme to take in their fair share of refugees by quota according to population/size of each nation state. It'd mean the UK taking many more refugees though, which is why it's politically untenable.

So the blame lies with the UK only insofar as they have the solution if they wanted to take it. However, the EU would have to stop being intransigent too and allow a system where any refugee landing by boat is immediately taken back to mainland Europe to be processed. That's the only way to stop the boats.
