There's unemployed people and jobs needing filled.

If they are capable and able to get there get them into the role or cut off their benefits.

All this talk of people being unwilling to work and it needs to be filled by migrant workers is pathetic. There's a lack of work ethic running through this country by people who have been spoilt and now have an expectation that things will be done for them and some roles are beneath them.

If you're out of work you take a job, any job to put food on the table and you should be thankful for it.

On the reverse we need to ensure that pay and working conditions are of a good standard for all, whether for migrant or domestic workers.
My experience working with long term unemployed is that many are extremely depressed and lacking self worth and confidence. Sure, there is always a proportion with a sense of entitlement also but think that is less than people think. Its a grim existence. You could cut benefits to zero and many would still not be working.

No mate because I’ve spoken to you before and you only want ‘evidence’ that supports your case. Everything else gets dismissed - see your patronizing comment ‘that is not evidence’
It's not patronising. There are many factors involved in the current driver shortage, all I asked for is your evidence to show that it is foreign drivers being paid low wages and these dissuading UK drivers from getting behind the wheel.

For instance, this page shows some typical salaries for truck drivers around the world

In Germany, for instance, they suggest that truck drivers pull in around $38,000 a year. Now if you believe this website

truck drivers in the UK pull in around $40,000 per year, which doesn't seem to suggest there is a low level of pay compared to similar countries, where lo and behold, shortages also appear to exist as well. Indeed, even Denmark, which pays around $47,000 per year, is reporting shortages of drivers.

Now it's your turn.

I don’t need lectures about what goes on in this country from an American

Incidentally, as I linked earlier, the issue was discussed in parliament five years ago (https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201617/cmselect/cmtrans/68/6805.htm), at which point the reasons for the driver shortage were attributed to:

  • many years of under-investment in recruiting and training to replace existing drivers as they retire;
  • a relative reduction in availability of suitably qualified drivers from elsewhere in the EU; and
  • drivers who moved to other sectors not returning to the industry as demand picks up.
No mention of foreign drivers undercutting John Bull.

EU workers undercutting the good old Brits on wages is Page One of the song sheet isnt it?

Sounds great, but largely baloney.
If we were part of the EU this might be pertinent

In essence happy in forcing people to work and live many miles away from family and friends...
