If two parties make an agreement, tell everyone how great it is and a few months later one changes it’s mind but the other doesn’t, the one that wants to stick to what was agreed just a few months ago, isn’t being “petty and vindictive “ it’s being straightforward and honourable. The other ? Well, you decide.

Its about the interpretation and application of the protocol. When an agreement falls at the first major hurdle it is sensible to renegotiate and amend. The EU enacted article 16 to suspend the protocol at the drop of a hat, with no negotiation with either the ROI or the U.K. over vaccinations. At least the U.K. is raising the issues and putting forward potential solutions. The EU just says NO. Who is being reasonable and who is being dogmatic, you decide…..

Let’s be honest here…. This Tory government are pathetic… the worst in history I would suspect, lie, deflect and profit from death seems to be the mantra.

At this particular moment they are not covering themselves with glory. The pingdemic is an out and out shambles, but at least Frost is trying to address the issues of the Protocol. The EU burying its head and shouting NO doesn’t address anything.…

The deal they agreed to and sold to the dummies who voted for them as the greatest deal ever ? That one ?

Why? We would have to follow rules we have very little influence over.
Ironically, the WTO was roundly criticised at it's inception, for reducing National Sovereignty.

Trump quite famously blocked appointments to it's appellate court 'citing National Sovereignty' as his reason.

And, of course, as soon as you enter into any sort of trade agreement, you reduce your sovereignty by virtue of that agreement.

Anyway, about the protocol Pete...

My point really in that second part is that some on here regard the EU body as some benign civil service upholding the wishes of its citizens, when in fact it is an nondemocratic bureaucracy pulling in more and more powers every year as it drives European countries into a USE.…

I am over it… I just find it hilarious that you’ve been sold a dud yet won’t accept it and would rather blame everyone else

I blame the U.K. for agreeing it and the EU for its application. It’s worth remembering what it was attempting to do and the EU application which is undermining it…

Ireland has always been an EU pawn in the game. I’ve always said so. It’s been played to the end and we now are where we are. The card has been played, Boris has thrown it back and a compromise has been agreed. It’s a great deal for NI and allows the deal to move forward. I thought you would be happy...

The EU needed a deal with the U.K. as much as the U.K. wanted one. The EU painted May into a corner and she fell for it. There is no doubt the U.K., May and Boris screwed this up. So once all the political pointing of fingers has taken place and we do the sackcloth and ashes, we are still left with a major problem because of this Protocol. It needs amending, but the EU say NO. So instead of a win/win we have a win/lose which is unsustainable. The only thing that would get through to the EU is a lose/lose scenario or the threat of one. WTO is obviously not as good as an FTA, although it would at a stroke regain our Sovereignty.…..

The EU, and I’m talking about the bureaucratic body, not Europe, is doing exactly what I said it would. It’s overplaying it’s hand and acting as if it were a United States of Europe and is picking fights even within itself. I see it’s now looking to have a military mission in Libya. Russia has always been a pain, but usually if left alone and you don’t poke it we get along, but we now have two dangerous bodies in the world, the CCP and the EU, both of whom are striving to be seen as superpowers. One will undoubtedly come into contact with the USA in the next year or two and the other will do similar with Russia. I want nothing to do with it

As I said (to anyone who would listen) right from the time they announced the referendum, the only way Brexit can be delivered is with the break up of the United Kingdom. Nothing has happened since that makes me change my mind.
