The vaccine supply chain in the UK is different to that contracted to the EU. They have their own factories.
It's not about countries; it's about contracts. The EU screwed up by being months behind the ball and tied up in bureaucracy. It is what it is.
The UK government have screwed up pretty much everything about this pandemic, late on absolutely everything, half arsed every measure... except for the vaccine. They've absolutely nailed the vaccine.
It's a "credit where it's due" situation.
Agree with this. The contract procurement by the gov has been excellent, which is an area they are usually dreadful at, in terms of value for money, at least.
I think a bit of caution though is sensible. The vaccine rollout is a marathon not a sprint. By the time we get round the entire population, those most vulnerable who started getting it in December, could well need another vaccination at that point, as the immunity from their first vaccination may have deteriorated.
So, while it’s great we’ve got off the mark so quick, and hopefully helps us break the back of the infection rates in the short term, we need long term supply throughout this entire year, for when we loop back round to start giving some of the population the 2nd vaccination.
