The article blaming Merkel was written by Ambrose Evans-Pritchard in the Torygraph. He is a long-standing pal and colleague of Johnson's at both the Torygraph and Spectator and most deffo not a Remainist.
And, lest we forget, the only intervention Merkel made was not succumbing to Cameron's desire to cease all immigration from the A8 countries and thus help Cameron resolve what was at the time an internal Tory party squabble.

That those people were nonetheless prevented from claiming in-work benefits for 4 years after arrival and could be sent home if they had not found a job within six months of arrival was clearly not sufficient to appease the certainly in no way racist elements of the Tory party.

But again, I know immigration wasn't an issue for you Pete so I'm sure you must be thinking of some other appeal to Merkel. Maybe she refused to give Cameron chemistry lessons?

More teething problems no doubt.

Not so much teething problems as bloody mindedness from the French. I read the other day that a consignment of goods, can’t remember if it was fish or whatever, were rejected because the boxes were labelled U.K. when the EU have now declared they should be labelled GB. We should do exactly the same if they continue and insist all products and produce from the EU is marked EU, no wine made in France or other such Malarky. But no, we always turn the other cheek because we cannot admit that we are dealing with cretins......

How is Project Fear going? The last I heard was that the EU had cracked down on packed lunches.

The real mess, the real monstrosity that is causing unknown harm to this country, is the government’s prolonged delay in applying any sort of control measures to people flying into the UK from other countries during a deadly pandemic.

We were the last to do anything, I believe? And now have the worst Covid death rate in the world!

We are a Third Country though. Thanks for that btw.

The EU have a duty to their citizens that only imports that meet their standards are allowed in.

Thats the rule that the UK, (or GB if they prefer), designed, and signed up for.
