Because, regardless of Covid, the Government has, as reported frequently in the media, 'squandered' billions of pounds on a rest and trace system unfit for use, lead by Dido Harding. The inference being, that the government spending 'a lot more than £350m a week hasn't in fact been given to the NHS but wasted on cronyism and mismanagement. Is that what you were getting at @orchard ?

Prediction based on frequency of usage.
1) Have I not already acknowledged Dido Harding has done a crap job, that the government has wasted billions on dealing with covid, and given my view on cronyism with my comments on Hardings husband? We're in agreement there so please stop throwing these topics back at me.

Once and for all I was not referring to covid in my post and I made that clear. The government has also spent a damn sight more than an extra £350m a week on the NHS since 2016 that has NOT been wasted. You will know this of course, but for reasons best known to yourself you prefer not to acknowledge it.

2) Follow the dialogue please if you're going to have a pop. It would save making a tit of yourself.

Me: Reference in a post to "Dildo Harding".

Bruce: Freudian slip Fred?

Me: I knew exactly what I was typing there Bruce (for those that don't understand simple English that means NO)

Pete: Auto correction

Me: You have weird auto correction on your PC Pete

You: Pathetic attempt at a jibe which just showed you weren't following the conversation.

I don't know why you're so offended by this..

You seemed to be having trouble understanding who Dido Harding was and what the relevance of the post about her picture was. I've given you a reason why it was relevant after your discussion about why it wasn't. I'm sorry you didn't understand that first time round.

B) Pete suggested autocorrection as the reason, not me. It wasn't a jibe at you, if anything it was pointing out the jibe from Pete.

You're angry about the jibe, you're angry at the wrong person.

Not offended. Just frustrated.

Pete was having a joke as was I with him. There were no jibes intended nor any offence taken.

So Pete makes a joke about your computer autocorrecting a word, you make the exact same a joke back to him (seemingly oblivious to the original subtext). I point it out to you and you get all haughty and say it was a 'pathetic jibe'.

There was no malice intended in my post, it wasn't a jibe.

Yeh its always recommended and I do carry one but I've never been able to use it and have always had to use my travel insurance.
Think it is useful when you live in an EU country. Say for instance if you need regular treatment or say a blood test very 6 weeks. I've got one but always get travel insurance as well whenever I'm going to an EU country. Interestingly, I did read that the UK paid out out £642 million to EU countries for this 'free treatment given to British in EU countries while it received about £67 million from EU countries or treatment given to EU in citizens in 2015. So the EHIC is costly to the uk taxpayer

Exactly that, as the Goodlaw project has highlighted, 20-30pc skimmed off before one even gets to the discussion of complete/partial waste under the Conservatives.

I don't think that the linked article is about the EHIC costs, which is only valid for emergency and primary care situations.
It mainly deals with the cover that the UK government provides to its citizens who have retired to EU countries and are in receipt of a government (state)pension.
Most of the EU people in UK are younger and working and less likely to need NHS treatment.

OK. I thought anyone resident in the EU from the UK, whether they are pensioners or not, need the ehic to access the health system of the EU country that they reside in.
You are probably right about EU residents in the UK. I was just making the point that if you have an ehic you can get free treatment at that point but those countries get the cost back from the uk taxpayer

UK pensioners permanently resident in an EU country become members of that country's national health system.
I use the French CPAM system directly with use of their "carte viltale". Never need the EHIC card. (Unless I am visiting Spain or Italy for example.
