yes but the EU stated how our fuel tariffs were paid so we can just change them like the USA!
so our top quality sttel is produced on a level playing field!
There is/was a steel glut that drove the price of steel down because demand decreased. Knocking off EU fuel 'tariffs', imposed on all EU countries, will not get the cost of British steel down sufficiently to compete.
"On the flipside, falling global demand and a strong pound make steel exports more expensive. Simply put, Britain is in the worst spot right now. Our steel is too expensive. There is too much of it. And no one wants to buy it.
Steel’s labour costs there [the UK] at about $200 per tonne of production, compared with as little as $10 for its Chinese peers. "That gap was too difficult to bridge with the best of operating efficiencies," Arora said.
Considering prices are around £285 per tonne for steel, according to pricing agency Platts, you can see how Chinese steel companies can remain profitable while British companies struggle to make ends meet. In fact, Britain's biggest steelworks Port Talbot is said to be losing around £1 million per day". Business Insider UK Mar. 31, 2016.
The EU 'fuel tariff' is not £1 million per day. Of course, leaving the EU will allow the UK government to cut fuel costs, push the pound down further to make UK steel more cheaper - but raw materials will rise, re-nationalise the steel industry or bail it out with hand outs.
