To ship a container far exceeds both the cost and carbon of road haulage. A container has to get to and from port as well, plus they hold considerably less. Also factor in that every pallet shipped to or from your mentioned places will need to be on heat treated pallets. Essentially they need to be heated to kill bugs in the wood, adding significant time, cost and carbon.

Food prices are going up, thats not even a debate unfortunately. Deal or no deal, they are going up.
Good prices in the long term will come down that's not even a debate. Food prices are kept high in the EU to protect farmers,. Mainly french farmers. We can source the stuff we need from other countries at a local cost. Meat from Australia and New Zealand. Grain from Australia or Canada. Fruit from South Africa. As for containers we get loads of them from china. Or should we stop ships from there. Prices may go up a bit when we leave but don't believe the remainers they will soon come down

I dont believe remainers, unfortunately I do the S&OP Financial Planning for one of the worlds biggest suppliers. I can tell you 100%, they are going up.

You’re having a bit of a mare here matey

It takes 8 weeks to ship a container from China to the UK.

Unless you’re proposing we have greenhouses in the containers I’m not sure how it’s relevant.
In the 70s we got most of the fruit and veg from ships into Liverpool from the canaries. We got our meat from NZ. They were called refrig boats. Technology has vastly improved so it will be fine easily
Most of our fruit and veg is grown artificially in greenhouses in holland. Even now the smart farmers here are copying that. We will be ok. No need for doom and gloom

We will see. In the short term there will probably be price rises. But it will soon sort itself out. Just fed up with the doom and gloom on here.

If you say so ha. Peddle yr doom and gloom.
It’s not about doom and gloom though is it. It’s about people proposing genuine concerns, such as the environmental impact of importing all our food from the other side of the country then being told that 1 ship causing less pollution than tonnes of lorries. lol
People are sick of continuously raising valid concerns regarding the implications of Brexit only to be called doom merchants or unpatriotic/undemocratic and that we should all ‘get behind this country to make things work’
