May happen in the short term. Then we can source stuff from Australia, New Zealand, South America and Canada. We will get it cheaper due to prices of food stuffs in the EU area being kept artificially high to keep the French farmers happy

To ship a container far exceeds both the cost and carbon of road haulage. A container has to get to and from port as well, plus they hold considerably less. Also factor in that every pallet shipped to or from your mentioned places will need to be on heat treated pallets. Essentially they need to be heated to kill bugs in the wood, adding significant time, cost and carbon.

Food prices are going up, thats not even a debate unfortunately. Deal or no deal, they are going up.

How easy is it ship perishable goods long distances? Just thinking we're several thousand miles from African, South American and Australasian markets. Is it practical (or possible) to ship fruit and veg that far?

its 40 days (IIRC) for that shipping route, most stuff is chilled but it’s dependent on the product as certain goods will lose its freshness even at low temperatures. Those products are normally sent via air freight.

A lot of goods won’t be direct shipments and will normally be stored in specifically controlled temperature warehouses in the Middle East, North America or parts of Europe dependent on the route. Then transported once again to final destination

How exactly do you propose keeping fresh produce fresh on a 6 week container journey ?
