I totally agree with her. That’s why I voted to join the common market. Of course now they are set on creating the U.S.E. I’m happy to leave it.....
You understand that to have no barriers you have to have consensus to remove them, which may sometimes mean that the collective do things that we don't endorse individually, right? That's the very nature of it. Because it seems that the Tories are arguing against any kind of invasion of their sovereignty at the moment, which would rule out any kind of trade agreement, and quite probably even WTO membership.

Bruce, many years ago I voted to join. How many Remainers in here actually did the same ?. I know the logic and benefits of what we originally joined and I understand the direction that certain politicians are currently driving the EU. I’ve said all along that a deal is the sensible outcome, but the EU are not being sensible, so if it’s trading on WTO rules, just like we do with many countries around the world, then so be it. We will set up FTA’s with many countries, much more quickly than the EU ever could, and drive our own prosperity at a speed that suits us......

Who do we trade with on WTO rules?

trans: I’ve benefited from this EU malarkey but now that I’ve fallen for some fibs I think it’s best we stand on our own two feet. Obviously I don’t mean I should be taxed more and obviously when it all goes wrong it’s not my fault (numerous ellipses)

But each removal of barriers to trade requires the country to give up some sovereignty and independence. That's the whole nature of this. That's why the Tories are banging that particular drum because even with a trade deal with the EU it will be the only one in history that makes both parties poorer and trade between both parties harder. All so the UK can say that it's "sovereign".

That's the absurdity of it, especially when you readily admit to be willing to give up sovereignty as part of WTO membership. Heck, the WTO even provide independent arbitration in the event of disputes, despite Brexiters wanting full control for British courts in all matters British. The WTO is also horribly out of date, with no meaningful changes made since 1995, so it's scarcely believable that any nation would voluntarily trade on those terms, but especially so one that likes to think of itself as cutting edge.
