They're only doing what everyone said they'd do from the start.

They haven't lied. They've said there'd be consequences.

The Brexiteers lied about "easiest trade deal in history", everything would be find.

I mean I'm the most likely person on here to look at both sides on any given issue, but with this? Nah, it's totally on the irresponsible bells who pushed for all this in the UK.

I don't disagree with the point about the irresponsible bells. I suppose my issue was that I didn't really listen to those said bells when making my decision (rightly or wrongly). I know a lot of people did, though.

On a different note, in the last four years the EU (as in, the people that run it - the UK MEPs included) have done little to change my opinion of them. The Catalonia elections, the Polish goverment taking steps to outlaw abortion and, as of two weeks ago, it's still only legal if it's in cases of incest or rape.

Those are two examples, and I'm obviously against a 'big brother' state, but if it's supposedly this amazing thing, and it's more than about just trade and money, then those are two examples where the EU should have stepped in, imo, and made the consequences clear.

Supposedly first-world nations living with laws like that, or police brutality like we saw in Spain. It's probably a different issue altogether, but it p***** me off.

Hang on - the EU doesn't interfere in member countries' internal affairs. It's up to the people of Poland to decide on what abortion laws they pass. Whether you or I agree with what course they follow isn't relevant.

I don’t know anyone who feels that way and I’ve not seen any reporting here that makes that out to be the case.

Mate, for the last four years people have had the EU flag as their twitter picture or an emoji of it in their name.

I don't mind someone wanting to remain and had I had my time again maybe I'd vote differently (if I knew the mess it was going to be from all involved, and the absolute lunacy of not working together for three years after the vote plays a big part in that) I'd have voted remain, because who can be arsed?

But to say people haven't done it is mad. They were protesting for years while holding the flag of a trading block.

Well the thing is it wasn't up to the people of Poland - hence the massive protests.

My point is that the EU shouldn't be allowing countries that have such backward laws into it in the first place. Want to be part of the group? Fine, but your women have the right to abortion. Y'know, a pretty basic human right (in 2020).

They interfere when it suits them (for money). Any moral issues, they're nowhere to be found.

When the Spanish police were beating people throughout Catalonia on the government's orders, the EU should - imo - be insisting to Spain that if that happened, there would be consequences. Trade tariffs, etc. That surely is something to be upheld? It's not big brother - it's just saying you can't treat your people like that and be part of the club.

Right from the start it was clear that the EU could not give the UK whatever it wanted. It would destroy their model and allow other countries to leave and do the same or new countries to want the benefits without the hassles either.

Been saying it for years, it's a game of chicken with a small hatchback and a massive truck on a single track road with cliffs either side, the truck doesn't want to smash straight through the car but it isn't just going to drive itself of the edge just because.

NI is looking right at you and waving.

Agree with your point though.

Couldn't care less really. The world won't end either way

I'd like to say I'm enjoying the flippancy of the recently deceived. Exhibit A - this poor sap. "The world won't end". People's livelihoods are at stake on top of a pandemic-induced crisis, but hey? The world won't end, so what are you idiots crying for? Some of you are in multinational relationships which are expicitly threatened, but... the world won't end. Many small UK businesses that rely on imports or exports will fold, but... the world won't end.

It's a good time to be a selfish xenophobe (a Greek word, can we still use it after no deal?) like arminisagod, who gets to feel the fuzzy feels about hating those teetotal Muslims and as a result stopping the French coming into the UK for some reason, but less a good time for real 21st century humans who live in the real world, one where relationships across borders - be they financial or interpersonal - matter.

Stop being dramatic for Christ sake. People will still go back to work on the 4th jan.

Nobody is losing their job that quickly. If at all.

Some things will be 8% more pricey, some will be cheaper.
