Well this really doesn't fit with the narrative on fishing that was spewed by the closet racists during the referendum, does it?

I'm sure they'll do something to empower locally owned and manned UK ships Vs companies exploiting cheap labour.

the scottish fishing fleet is manned by about 55% of deckhands who identfy as scottish think it works out 72% if you take in other roles , that was from a BBC survey.
Of the 5000 fisherman 1000 are from non EU areas Philippenes ,Ghana and other counties , who work on transit visas, this means they opperate in waters outside the 12 mile limit, cant live on the scottish mainland or work within that limit.
The RMT and various charities have long been pressing for action on this practice, crews not paid while the boats are laid up and forced to live onboard the boats as well as having there basic rights overlooked.
They do not recieve the minimum wage of the country they operate in under current employment rules , even if they spend many hours in the home ports, its not just on fishing boats but ferries PO ect, that this was challenged by in the EU courts a few years a go and a loophole in the posted workers directive allows this practice to continue, although some counties Italy , poland and a few othere insist the workers get the same minumum rights as EU workers , it isnt in every country.
It really needs sorting out.

Knew a few families from the Philippines that were working and living here.
