Indeed that was one of my many concerns....

An honest question, Pete. Why would an EU army, which we would be part of, be a concern?

if the creation of an EU army is inevitable, which I‘m not sure if it is, but it may well be, wouldn’t you be more concerned now, about it being created anyway, and us not being part of it? What was your concern about the creation of an EU army with us in it. What did you see as the danger?

Gammos jumping for joy...

Until they're paying taxes and fees to get to Marbs or Sol for a piss up.

I'm betting the net immigration figures will be like 10-15% maximum less. There will be some rule in place that keeps the Eastern Europeans coming over while we are in a 'building' phase and gammons will be ok saying "but, but least we have sovereignty now and could stop it if we wanted". Blissfully ignoring that we could have done that within the EU.

My fear is that an EU army would eventually be directed by Brussels. The EU has a certain arrogance about it, where jumped up nonentities from Luxembourg and Belgium push ever eastwards (Ukraine), and will eventually push up against Russia. NATO is effectively non political, it’s an alliance, an Eu army would not be so. NATO is successful at doing what it was set up to do and provides a nuclear shield to its members and does so with the USA and Canada. I do not trust the EU to do similar. They will create issues with Russia and then we will all be dragged into it. I want nothing to do with any EU led Army....

What a thing to celebrate. Bloody fools.
I find the number of comments from that tweet by people thinking the end of freedom of movement will prevent illegal immigration staggering tbh. Especially those who think it'll stop people arriving on dinghies from across the Channel. People are either misinformed or stupid, probably both.

It makes me a bit angry. I was lucky enough to grow up, go to uniniversy and work while we had it. Made a few good friends from the Continent, some were even French! If I ever have children it's such a pity they won't get the same opportunity.

Trucks to Wales from Ireland will have to drive to England for check-in after Brexit transition

Trucks travelling to destinations in Wales from Ireland will need to drive all the way to England for post-Brexit checks before travelling back to Wales, sources have told the Daily Post.

Checks will need to be carried out on traffic coming through Holyhead from the Republic of Ireland after the end of the Brexit transition period.

No facility has been built on Anglesey to deal with the lorries and may not be ready for two years, so the lorries will be directed to interim sites in Birmingham and Warrington.

The Warrington site is understood to be a depot at Appleton Thorn, while the Birmingham site will be near Solihull, an hour and 48 minutes and three hours and a half from Holyhead respectively.

Holyhead’s commercial and ferry port is one of the UK’s busiest and primarily handles shipping back and forth from Dublin.

About 1,200 lorries and trailers a day move both ways through Holyhead port, 100 through Fishguard, and 175 through Pembroke. Inbound lorries will not face any checks by UK authorities until July 2021.

Plans for a lorry customs site near Mona showground on Anglesey were dropped in October.

Opposition members were trying to overturn a decision by council leaders to reject the request to use the local authority-owned car park.

In September Cabinet Minister Michael Gove said that the UK Government was “working with the Welsh Government in order to invest in a facility near Holyhead in Anglesey in order to ensure that transit and other procedures can facilitate the flow of traffic and trade.”

It's an utter nonsense, and wrong on various levels. Regarding "illegal" immigration, there is currently no legal way for people to claim asylum, which is why so many make such a dangerous journey. People also forget that those making the journey are nearly all the middle class from the country they're fleeing. They're the people just like us, as the poor in those countries don't have the money for it. You would think we would move heaven and earth to accommodate people who themselves are moving heaven and earth to come to this country, but instead we want to treat them like they're sub-human. It's frankly a disgrace. That it's being instigated by a woman whose parents were fortunate enough to leave Uganda before Idi Amin started to ethnically cleanse people of their ethnicity makes it even more staggering.

Re migration more generally, there is nary an actual study into the topic that shows that migration is anything but a boon. It helps innovation, it helps employment, it helps tax revenues. Heck, even "illegal" migration in America has been shown to benefit all of those things, and there's no corresponding rise in crime or social breakdown or any of the things right-wing arseholes like to suggest. We're becoming a global laughing stock.
