But Pete it doesn't just depend on the outcome of the election. Negotiations on UK:US are done at state level before the House / Presidential ratification. It is unbelievably complicated - Trump can't just tell us we'll get a good deal.

Of course, but we had one Democrat (Obama) stating we would be at the back of the queue, one Republican (Trump) stating we were at the front of the queue and now Democrats Biden and Pelosi saying we may be at the back of the queue unless we cave in to the EU. Now I am a simple soul, but I always go with friends rather than enemies.....

Pete if that deal isn't agreed by the time we leave - even if it is only enacted once the TP is over - the US (regardless of administration btw) will stamp all over our throats.

It is unbelievably complicated - Trump can't just tell us we'll get a good deal. As per the BBC today- even the Government isn't expecting the UK:US deal to be nearly done until the Spring, so we could be in a wild position where we have no deal with the EU and the US at the start of 2021. That's an insane place to find ourselves less than a year after the economy took a 20% hit.

Sorry, I replied before the rest of your post arrived.

I agree that having Trump doesn’t guarantee anything. But let’s stop for a moment. We have been trading with the USA for years on WTO rules, and it’s worked fine so far. Another year or two will make no difference. Meanwhile the Eu need to have a deal with us because they want some control over the U.K., any deal would give them that, No deal gives them nothing. We will continue to trade with both the USA and the EU without any deals because we are a good market, providing good profits. The U.K. is in a good place commercially and both the USA and EU know it.....

Simple soul, simple brain. You've automatically cast the person telling you exactly what you want to hear as the friend you want to go along with, and the adults in the room reminding you of your obligations as enemies you don't want to listen to. It's like the Boomers got tired of Millennials refusing to leave their teenage behaviour behind and decided to just go full toddler to spite them.

When I was growing up in the 80s, I was taught not to trust strangers trying to sweet talk me into going off with them. Turns out, the generation before just can't wait to be taken advantage of. Is it any wonder you lot have been conned for the last 4 years plus, if Trump of all people is someone you believe is riding to your rescue? Are there any points in your life where critical thinking steps in, or did you just disengage your brain permanently on a pub bar stool?

Why? We are still their most important ally. Commercially, financially, politically and militarily. The EU need us for the same reasons and other countries would like to be part of this. We are a first rate catch for people who want do business. Japan understands this, hence the first deal. It’s about time people started to realise just how good the U.K. is.....

I don’t listen to what people say. I watch what people actually do. Now if you would like to engage in a bout of abuse, be my guest and I will give you my undivided attention.....

no it hasn’t, the U.K. has received a lot of pressure from the USA to bypass EU SPS checks on certain goods entering the country. And as such the competent food authorities have bent to political pressure from the cabinet office. Any EU audit and local authorities could be dragged over coals.

I have argued in the past that I don’t think our food standards will change, and I’m now regretting that comment because I’m 95% sure that within the coming weeks there’ll be a damning precedent set for the future

so whilst WTO may sound A-OK for taxation at the border, there’s a lot more to it which will have a detrimental impact on the future of this country

People really need to get ready for Sept / October to be pushing us into some seriously uncharted waters in terms of standards and TBTs. The admission in Parliament this week will the need to be viewed in its correct context.
