So for most people, it'll be largely meaningless?
Dunno mate. There was talk about data sharing and stuff, but if I am honest, I havnt a clue what levels of trade we do directly with Japan. (As opposed to Japanese companies in say, the EU for example).
Thing is, as this article explains, the single market was much more valuable (in pure trade terms) because the kind of barriers that exist for the services that are the bedrock to our economy are non-tariff related. So free trade deals with Japan, Canada and so on are better than a kick in the teeth, but they are pretty unlikely to even come close to replicating what we have with Europe, even if you overlook the fact that most trade continues to be done with those nations that are close by geographically.
