The government ministers will do. You spent years saying we need an elected Brexiteer leading things,, and now are happy giving it to unelected mandarins?

I think I said I want professional negotiators leading things......this virus will at least keep the politicians occupied while the teams sort out a deal....

Border Operating Model will be issued at the end of March, giving clarity regarding processes that will happen 1st Jan 2020. This will not cover NI

includes: decelerations, duties, licenced/authorised goods etc

The timeline for a Brexit deal by the end of the year was already nuts. The EU is in meltdown and the UK is on its way. No way can even a sensible* Brexit deal be sorted. Has to be pushed back a minimum 12 months

*whether you agree with Brexit or not the aspiration has to be to get a good one.

It's always been an ideological crusade over common sense. COVID-19 won't change that.

It’s not really the time for political debate but surely anyone would find it hard to disagree with that . Even the most ardent leavers accept a period of instability, for varying periods , after we leave is that something we can afford to be rushing into right now ? I think overall a lot of things will be changing after this or at least being closely examined . whether it’s zero hour contracts , NHS funding or food wastage , I’m not sure we’ll ever get back to where we where , if we do it’ll be a while getting there . This really may prove something that changes our lives forever and the Brexit debate could just be part of that .

Not to mention, it's very unclear how the EU will come out the other side of this as well. We're in an unprecedented situation at the moment that requires people working together, which almost never happens when party politics gets involved.

These events shape our politics. This is exactly when politics should be debated. Never give a government a free pass on anything!

sorry mate, as usual I’ve failed to convey what I’m trying to . i made exactly the same point as you , only the other day in response to a question if criticism of Johnson . Absolutely the government shouldn’t get a free pass , I simply meant that the future of our politics in relation to the likes of the Brexit debate feels perhaps a little unnecessary right at this moment .

We cant underestimate the ideaology behind Brexit, they will gladly use any measures that Johnson brings in deal with this virus to their advantages in getting the kind of Brexit they want, it's already telling Johnson wants virus measures for 2 years which at the moment covers our exit. We ended up with the fixed term parliament act under similar circumstances.
