Therein is one of the issues mate, some facility was accused recently of doing just that, and when you factor in the neo-liberal corporate funding model, we no longer have independent scientists that pursue their discipline as an end-in-itself...
There are too many top class scientists working for different world organisations researching this for figure fiddling of that scale to be the case.

The landed gentry mate, they largely love the idea of a good bit of fracking on our tiny island (as long as it's up North)
Not too sure they do mate, I think you may be over-generalising. Some, yes, but other's deffo see responsible stewardship as one of their principle duties. It's the nouveau merchants and their desperation to get in and out of a Ponzi scheme before it implodes and those responsible are sought that's driving this imo.

The only case, or rather, statements I made were:
i). It's a fact that at least one facility has been accused of recording incorrect data intentionally.
ii). The Western scientific research model is, through its corporate financing model, not as objective as it was, or ought to be.

I didn't say that all the figures were manipulated to serve some other end. :)

I was basing my view on personal experience mate, so it might be a bit generalist. However, I know 2 large land owners who are frothing at the mouth at the prospect of leasing out acreage and to hell with the consequences.

When you've got hundreds of thousands of barmpots believing that 9/11 was a staged US military action, then people dismissing climate change shouldn't come as a great surprise mate.

I've done plenty of research on this subject, and have encountered many who claim it's some form on global conspiracy. They invariably quote one of the several climate change denier websites, who almost without exception can be traced back to oil company funding. Conspiracy? You bet.

As I said, it's part of a worrying narrative if we're rejecting people who do their level best to have an informed opinion on something in favour of what? A hunch? An uninformed opinion on the matter?

I'm not sure what point you are making. I made the point that top class scientists employed for world organisations will not have been making up data for the last however many years when measuring the temperature of the earth.

I'm not sure which facility was accused of making their data up. We're they found guilty of doing this?

No, Bruce. Scientific observations. It doesn't feel that much warmer and it snowed the other year.

Shocking isn't it ?! I can see the correlation now mate, most estates that have sold parcels of their former property, generally retain the mineral rights, so I imagine an unscrupulous short-termist few utilising this and selling the right to pollute others...

I think so mate, South/Central America iirc

Those that shout down people for questioning the perceived wisdom are also the ones that call others close minded. It's very ironic.

I remain sceptical of climate change, but I'm not too worried about it. I'm much more concerned with the bad proposals made to tackle it.

Case in point right here. The Environmental Protection Agency said last year that fracking doesn't pollute nearby water supplies, and it doesn't pollute the air, so what is it polluting exactly?
