Indeed. The EU are scared that we will compete with them, hence all this standards and proximity nonsense. They want us tied up with the ball and chain again. As Boris has stated, we should not adhere to their rules anymore than we would demand that they adhere to ours. Also, it’s staggering that they want access to fishing, even though there are no end of people on here saying that fishing is no big deal, yet it seems to be a very big deal to the EU. Now they roll out the Gibraltar issue again. They are worried that Boris will just stick to his guns unlike the previous weak government under May.....
lol Compete for what? Another song contest?

Probably as individuals, but that's why there is an EU, and now we are competitors of EU. You wanting their charity or something? Not sure what trade deals you were involved in, probably some 3rd world bannana Republic who was grateful for anything. It's survival of biggest and strongest when it comes to dealing with EU China USA...

I'm still confused as to why the major banks haven't left the country after the 2016 result, they have overstayed there welcome by 4 years surely.
I’m not surprised you’re confused. You couldn’t even spell your username correctly. I imagine opening a box of cornflakes pushes you to the brink of your cognitive abilities.

Here in Finland there seems to be no inclination to giving the UK an easy ride at all ,in fact it is giving the ones who are talking about it a laugh .Two differing views on the matter that are still way apart if you listen to both sides or is it what the press are letting hear ?.

Free open democracy nothing is done, not even with your misplaced command.

It may be over for certain age groups, they will go to their graves unhappy or happy. Younger ones can continue to carry their flames for the EU, much like Redwoods Bones and Farages did about getting out.

Dismissing a view or cause out of hand is very authoritarian not really something that really is very acceptable..
That's a long term view whereas I'm am very much talking about the next 5 years.

It's not a command to suggest that people direct efforts away from trying to re-fight the referendum in the hope of a different result, towards pushing for as close alignment with the EU as possible. People can do whatever they want but there comes a point if you're banging your head against a brick wall, you have to accept that the wall has won.

It's curious that the 'we have a trade surplus' line of thinking only ever seems to work one way. UK has a huge trade surplus with Ireland, but that doesn’t give Ireland all the cards...

Trade is trade, either you want to do it or you don’t. I’ve said all along that I’m quite happy on any terms, free or WTO....either way we will be fine.....

To be perfectly honest Pete, regardless if you care about a FTA or WTO terms from no deal, it's largely immaterial as people were promised things that you may not say you care about, but they expected them and will want them delivered.

And to your 'trade is trade' point, it rather missed the more fundamental point in argument from leave voters, which is the flexibility in determining what is a position of strength.
