Labours NEC ?.......

10,000 people work in fishing in the UK. Academia has some 430,000 people employed in it, yet we're happy to ignore what the latter wants in favour of what the former wants. Sound logic.
Why has fishing been elevated to the most important issue, genuine question? Has been mentioned in nearly every May/Johnson speech on brexit they've done for what is a small sector like you say. Guessing its either the imagery of taking back our Rule Britannia waters or keeping brexit areas like Cornwall on board

Indeed. It's ironic really, as the quotas for fishing are based largely on the proportions of the industry in the 1970s (ie if French fishermen made up 20% of UK fishing in the 1970s, they have 20% of the quotas now). The problem with that (from a British perspective), is that at that time, most British fishermen were doing their stuff in Icelandic waters (before they were kicked out), so the British share of British waters isn't as high as you might expect. Despite this, British fishermen were the 2nd most active in the whole of the EU in 2014, with that growing considerably over the previous decade, which suggests that our self-inflicted 'problem' wasn't such a big problem after all.

There's no issue with fish being available in the UK though, is there?

There will be if not properly conserved. Overfishing is rife, Holland wants to use electric current, other Eu countries employ monster ships that basically dredge the seas. For me, fishing is just another minor yet important aspect of Brexit.....and it’s quite important for those in the industry....

So you think fishing in UK waters will be reduced once we leave?

“The UK economy will outpace the struggling eurozone in the first two years after Brexit, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has predicted for the first time.
Britain also outpaced the monetary union in 2019, giving it three straight years of faster growth, according to the IMF's latest forecasts.”......

That'd be a weird thing to say in that article thought wouldn't it?

You make it sound like the plucky Brits are out there with a twig and twine. Is that the reality or are we using the same methods as those pesky foreigners?
