In the grand scheme of things, the fishing industry is barely a shell, let alone an egg.
Indeed, however, Brexiteers have used the UK fishing industry and the regulation it operates in to further it's wider cause, an emotive poster boy, remember Farage and the flotilla... And as usual with Brexit they peddle part truth's to suit ideaology.

So, the bill has now been approved in the Lords and will now pass into law. We are leaving the EU. To those who really wanted to remain, I sympathise, to those that wanted to leave you will be happy. Now we need to sort out our trade deals. It looks like the EU will throw their toys out of the pram and offer a bad deal, but Boris is not May, and if it turns into no deal then so be it.........

In fact, not a single voice in the Lords objected.......

As with the convention of the seas though, surely management of the seas has to be an international, cooperative endeavour. Fish don't get checked for nationality as they swim between borders. The only sensible way forward is to govern collectively.

it is, it falls under the UN convention of the seas. Then from that the EU have adopted common fisheries policy and enforcement legislation like Council Regulation 1005/2008 to deter illegal unregulated fishing. Every catch that enters the EU, from the different fishing areas, needs to be accompanied by catch certificates. These detail the species, amount caught, area caught, which flag state caught the fish, which vessel the catch is registered to. These need to be presented along with other documentation when it lands in eu ports of entry. Other countries outside of the EU have similar regimes to ensure sustainable fishing is adhered to throughout

With respect Pete, if you believe this is purely about trade, I fear you're significantly underestimating why so many of us have so enjoyed being in the EU to begin with.

Long moved on... However, enjoying these free trade promises suddenly became well not very free, ministers breaking codes as they scratch round for positivity, diplomats resigning and highlighting Johnson Government as primary reason for being untruthful not just to the British public but Foriegn peers. It's going to plan, my plan that is.

Dont think either side can afford in the long run to offer a bad deal, the pressure from Germany ect start to tell as reality kicks in, same for us even a brief look at the economic background of both tell you they can posture as much as they like either side ,but both are not really in any position to not do a deal at the end of the day.
