All this talk of a general election...it's almost like someone had said they guaranteed they would do something, with the world watching, and now don't want to be publicly reminded of the fact that they can't deliver it.

Nutshell.

I am sure there are some EU loons with flags and bed sheets as EU flags, but that is what the Leavers dont get. We aint that pro EU. We are just not sure, exactly, what leaving actually achieves, if anything. Lob in the ERG, Farage EDF element who think its a great idea, and those doubts are kinda amplified.

Bit harsh like

He can legitimately claim to be acting in the national interest at the moment, because avoiding no deal is in the national interest.

Once that threat has gone, he has no excuse whatever.

Except by rejecting an election he is making it much much more likely that the EU (france) reject the request because what would be the point in it.

It shows how far the quality of our politicians has fallen when the leader of the opposition doesn't think he can win an election against someone with Boris character and history...

France aren't going to reject the extension.

Love him or loathe him, this is smart politics from Johnson.

If he'd gone hell for leather for a General Election, but parked Brexit, then he'd have looked like a complete expert in the art of masturbation ( as opposed to one who's obviously just skilled in the art ). This way, he stands a good chance of getting brexit over the line, and then run an election campaign on the back of "being the guy who gave a large percentage of the public what they voted for".

Meanwhile, we ( the labour party ), look like a complete set of dolts.

Dont forget, johnson has his eye on the 1/1/2020 date as have the ERG swivel eyed loons in the party - the date on which the EU directive on tax havens comes into force. He will do whatever is neccessary to achieve the passing of the crap W/A surrender bill before then.

I know people keep saying this, but these people have genius accountants. That directive just isn't that powerful that it will suddenly bring them into line.

There's a metric tonne of Commission / EC directives.

You seriously think the voting public give a toss about johnson's character/history? Dont get me wrong I hope they would do, but they believe the lies and deceit fed to them by the media. Get No Deal off the table and THEN Corbyn will agree to an election....whether labour will win it is another argument. Personally I see a hung parliament.

because the majority invoked article 50 without any acceptance of the consequences and the mess. And now 3 years down the line the country is at a complete standstill because there’s no majority and the opposition has no balls to sell his convictions
The consequences of leaving/staying should have been made crystal clear PRIOR to the referendum....but they weren't. So with the result by a tiny majority of those who voted favoured leave, MPs who probably thought they were following the wishes of "the many", actually did do as you said....dont forget May had a majority at the time but foolishly tried to increase it in 2017. there was no attempt to involve other parties in cross party talks.....it was always May's caving in to the ERG loons (whom johnson voted with). Why not get NO Deal off the table first? Dont blame labour for a catastrophe which is entirely down to the tories own making.
