He’s either frightened of losing or frightened of winning. He’s sat on the fence over Brexit for so long he doesn’t know what he would do if he gained power. He knows he’s going to lose, so he will not agree to a GE, just as he wouldn’t play the ‘no confidence’ card against either May nor Boris. People do not like political cowardice and Corbyn has blown his chance of ever becoming PM.......

Pete I've answered you on this. You know he's not ducking an election. He wants one. We will have one very soon. Johnson cannot be trusted on No Deal until that legislation has passed. Simple. Then there will be a GE. You do yourself no credit peddling such spurious tripe.

I don't follow this logic. Any opposition party in the immediate aftermath of losing a general election (especially after suffering a landslide defeat) has no realistic expecation of winning a GE. So what are they supposed to do, just dissolve themselves immediately? I'm sure if you read back some of the stuff you're posting without the blinkers of "I want Brexit to happen and will adopt any position in support of that" you'd see it comes across as a bit weird at times.

He is heading the opposition to a government run by May who spent 3 years making a pigs ear of Brexit. A government now run by Boris who has no majority and as Labour keep saying ‘no mandate from the people’. When would be a good time for Corbyn to have an election ? If we have one before the end of Oct then at least the people can decide. If he makes more feeble excuses and waits until after yet another extension is granted or even worse after the extension has run out, then fingers will not be pointed at Boris because people will at least know he tried but had his legs cut away. There is no benefit to be gained by Corbyn, because he will be on the hook for the mess, but what will be will be.....

Trusted to do what. Are you seriously suggesting that if he stood up in the HoC and named a date, with opposition parties already claiming that he would lie, and he then changed it that he would not suffer. If he named a date and didn’t carry it through even I wouldn’t vote for him.....

Any ideas on why the government haven't drawn up a quick cast-iron law which guarantees no change in status for current legal UK residents with non-Brit nationalities?

Such a law would solve a lot of the stress associated with No Deal.

No idea. I thought they said they were going to do so....

In the long list of Boris Johnson's lies, this would be a fairly insignificant one. He is a serial liar and managed to become PM. The daily mail and the Telegraph would see him right and you'd pop back on here to tell us why it was a masterstroke/he never said it.

When would be a good time for Corbyn to have an election ?

In normal times, he'd just watch a minority government squirm and fail to accomplish anything, with an exasperated populace getting increasingly fed up of such a pointless administration and starting to feel Labour could do better. As the polls shift he'd edge towards the VoNC. Why agree to an election if he's polling worse than the incumbents? It makes no sense to just grant the Tories a majority and further years in power. Again, if you weren't so blinkered by wanting anything to happen to achieve Brexit, you'd see this. But...

If we have one before the end of Oct then at least the people can decide.

Oh look, the all important 31st October date. Blinkers very much on.

here in Germany the blue party is AfD...

I must say I’m very interested in aFd, the recent elections in Saxony was very strange to see the democrats who if I’m not mistaken have ran that region since unification of Germany, lose so much of the vote.

They’ve faced immensely hostile media, left wing attacks hospitalising people, finances scrutinised, anything in their history broughtup, the German Police and establishment has gone after them hard.

The same tactics used there are moving onto Britain unfortunately.

It’s reminiscent of remainers here trying to shut down legitimate votes and decent people who voted leave.

The AfD is a complex topic. I wouldn't like to derail this thread with it, but if you're interested here is a predictably anti-AfD piece in The Guardian and my direct reply to it (i'm an East-Berliner myself).

I’ve seen some social media posts of remainers happy that some older leave voters have passed away. Is this really the level of debate the losers have sunk too.

This is the least surprising news of the day.

No because he's a proven liar. If you lived in uxbridge and voted for him because of his stance to stop Heathrow expanding what would you think now?
