Yeah, pretty much. Turns out that 'Leave' didn't really mean anything in legislative terms and nobody can agree on what its definition should be.

TBF that isn't true - there probably even now is a majority in Parliament for some form of soft Leave (customs union / single market) provided it was accompanied by a 2nd referendum; it is and always has been the ERG that have blocked anything they do not agree with (because half of them think no deal is an option, and the other half because a soft leave might prevent us being bound to the Yanks by a trade deal).

edit: in fact, I would not be that surprised if (assuming todays bill passes) Boris tries to bring back May's deal - no deal as an option will have then been removed (so the ERG / DUP might back it), the 21 rebel Tories will presumably back it as well, as will the group around Kinnock. Boris could then call an election whilst simultaneously claiming credit for Brexit whilst denying that the deal was anything to do with him.

Some time ago, I forget when as it all seems such a long time ago now, a (referendum?) was called for the people of the U.K. to vote for staying in the Common Market (?) or not, as the case may be. I recall that the outcome was to leave. We still haven’t left and for some reason it now seems that there was some caveat attached that if we were to leave, it must be with a ‘deal’? It would appear that unlike the original referendum(?) where the people was asked to vote, the caveat can only be decided by politicians. It all seems a little undemocratic and perhaps a little over complicated. Or have I got this wrong?
Looks like politics is not for us ordinary folks after all.

Leave politicians lied to you to win the referendum though

I bet they're rubbing their hands with glee* in Brussels. I'm ashamed to say I'd no idea what had happened until I saw it on my phone 20 minutes ago as I was too focused on my laptop** yesterday to watch TV, listen to the radio or look at my phone.

** No, i wasn't looking at porn!

You're making the mistake that those in the EU hate us. Everyone I've spoken to has their head in their hands at the sheer state of the government. I mean they despaired enough about the result in the first place, but the way the government has responded to it has them shaking their heads, not rubbing their hands.

I don't think the BBC consider themselves to have any particular political bias as an institution, but their political coverage tends to veer to the right, and they seem, when questioned about it to counter by saying 'across all our platforms we provide content from all political veiwpoints' which largely means their comedic content is more left leaning and liberal.

As it happens I think their news/political content, while clearly right leaning, is just appalling. They don't offer analysis, they just report soundbytes and events while letting the same talking heads determine the narrative. Their investigative journalism has deteriorated massively in recent years and the main news content is filled with cliche and vox pops. And those capable of actually probing and holding people to account seem to favour 'gotcha' lines of questioning that actually don't address very much.
Veer to the right? lol

So you don't think they think this is the prelude to the revoking of Article 50?

I bet they are wishing like us that this mess would finish one way or another. Uncertainty is no good for anyone + the fact they have to spend more time discussing options what to do next. The fact is when Cameron said we would be out of the single market etc. in the event of a leave decision it was still understood there would be some sort of trading deal - not no deal.

The leavers have had their one shot at glory and don't want to risk another referendum based on no deal v remain.

I honestly don't know any more. The whole episode has been utterly disastrous, and my only consolation is that perhaps the rest of the world aren't as absorbed in this as we are and it might have passed many by. That we're in the grips of far right dogma is one of the more depressing eras in British history.

I think many would just like the famed British pragmatism to return, as the professionalism of the Tories has been woeful, from David Davies onwards.

I would bet that, like me, the vast majority who voted leave were not worried about the possibility of No Deal, because it was always there as a spectre in the background during negotiations.

And with one bound he is free.

Johnson swears he will not go to the EU again and ask for an extension.

If all goes well with the Rebel Bill this week and if he is unable to get a deal fron the EU on October 17th he will be forced to do just that.

Unless.

He re-visits May’s WA.

Asks the EU to revert to the NI only Backstop.....and makes a few concessions to Labour in any new WA.

Bring it to the Commons.....the spineless ERG won’t stand up to the Whips like that honourable company of old fashioned One Nation Tories did today.

Francois and his ilk will do whatever Mr. Dominic Cummings tells them to now so they will vote for it.

Labour will vote for it as mist of their six demands are met.

And best of all for Johnson, the DUP are no longer a factor as he is now down about twenty votes so they ain’t propping him up no moah.

I have been saying it all along....the NI only Backstop is the only sensible way to get out of this mess.

And now the road to it is cleared of its only obstacle.....Tory dependence on the DUP.
Do they still do Jackanoory Khal. I used to love that when I was a nipper.
