So you admit the steel industry is subsidised and will continue to have to be whether we are in or out of the EU which knocks your "It's all the EU's fault" argument on the head. To deflect this you resort to the usual
"Whataboutery". Meh.

No, I don't because it isn't.

EU rules prevent us from doing that. But once out of EU then yes, we can.

There is no such thing as EU money. It is just recycled members contributions after the mega tax free salaries, final salary pensions and huge allowances have been paid to EU employees. The UK is a substantial net contributor but the contributions are not being used for the good of UK, leastways, not as well as if we saved our membership fees and decided how we were going to spend our money rather than have the dipso from Luxembourg decide for us.
Those mega salaries that Farage and his mates have been taking for years?
You have no idea how any saved UK contributions will be spent just as you have no idea how much we benefit in Science, Security and mutual trade.
You just know what you want.

Correct. But it is in absolutely dire straits unless it can be sold, probably for £1 and the workers have all been given notice I understand.

I will have to do some more reading but initially it looks like they can't have provided the steel for the RN as it has to be a particular type. They sold off their carbon credits which they are entitled to do so but then asked for (& recieved) £120 million from the government to buy some more to prevent fines from the EU that would have made the company bust. They then asked for more money. Basically they are a busted flush. The government could have put more money in but it was not in the taxpayer interests. So not sure where these EU laws about government help come into play.

Hardly a company you would want to give a load of work to. The carbon credit fines will continue post Brexit so there is no difference upcoming. So my initial opinion is inside or outside of the EU it still would have been the same outcome.

He also as ever, sees one side of the coin. Whatever the contribution we pay is, Leavers never ever balance that against the billions in GDP that free trade with the EU contributes to the UK.

Plus like you allude to, the unquantifiable contribution the likes of research, security, and scientific cooperation brings. It is always a single sum game.

Well, your last sentence I certainly agree with.

Farage has consistently tried to do himself out of an EU job by getting UK out of EU. How you can criticise Farage for taking the salary without criticising every other EU employee in Brussels (or is it Strasbourg this week) just highligjts the jaundiced view of the world that you and a lot of other remainets have.

And the EU funded projects in the poorest parts of this country that our government has consistently ignored.

My understanding is that the carbon fines would never have had to be paid if we weren't in EU.

For indistries of national importance, yes.
I see your point here mate but I disagree with you. We're not in 1950 anymore. The Services get loads of kit and equipment from abroad. Usually because it's decent quality priced reasonably. Are you suggesting that all defence equipment should be manufactured in the UK?

The EU funds nothing. The EU merely recycles members contributions after taking out extortionate amounts for itself first.

It is like giving all your money to a mate and being grateful when he gives you some back, but only if you spend it in shops he approves of. Its complete madness.

I live in one of the poorest parts of the country, also worked in local government dealing with claiming payments from the EU, I look forward to you pointing out some examples of this because I see sweet FA of them here

In this part of the country the EU has done nothing of note, and considering the place has been said to have been in the top 3 for the UK's most deprived areas then I think it more than qualifies for some of the EU funded projects

Just this once and especially for you.

EU rules prevent UK government from subsidising (ie saving) the UK steel industry plant in Scunthorpe.

I think the 5000 people who are about to lose their jobs there would say EU rules have had a fairly dramatic effect on their lives.

If that plant had been able to supply (better quality btw) steel to build our own Royal Navy ships then the plant would be alive and thriving and we would have British ships built from British steel. But EU rules forced the contract out to EU wide tender and the cheaper (but lower quality) Spanish tender had to be accepted - under EU rules.

The sooner this nonsense ends, the better.

Oops. Try again?
