The people who voted 'out' knew what they were voting for in the context of the referendum.

Exactly what I said, well meant. A multi faceted, complex legal, economic, security, political and social issue was decided upon by a simple Yes/No tick box question that singularly ignored everything that a No vote would or could mean.

Ergo, many didnt know what they were voting for, and still dont.

The Irish Border issue being Exhibit A.

I didnt give that a seconds thought when I voted, and I reckon millions of others would say the same.

They were not told what the final outcome would be, or even what the government would aim for.

Let's run a little thought experiment. Let's say it's 2016 again and the referendum is tomorrow. Unofficially, the Tories have been talking with the EU for a year since the GE and have a rough roadmap of how Leaving would actually work, and it's shockingly similar to the WA. No ifs, no buts, the 'Out' option on the ballot paper has it in black & white - £39b payment, Irish backstop and all, up against a simple 'Remain with no changes'.

Reckon that version of Leave gets 52% of the vote? Would any of the resident Leavers have gone for it?
You are just suggesting what remoaners are trying to achieve. A referendum which puts the options as 'remain' or 'a bad deal'. As the situation would never have arisen and is purely hypothetical, there is not much point in it.

Irish border Exhibit A? We have already declared on numerous occasions that it will be a soft border. I think the Irish border is an EU problem.

Have we? Cool.

Thats that then. So free movement of people then. Fine by me.

But back to my point, I didnt give a thought to the border issue when I voted, happy to admit it. Did you?

It's a British border. Put there by Britain against the will of the Irish. It is an EU problem of British making. The time to take responsibilities for your own mess is drawing closer.

roydo, I don't believe you just posted that. 'It wasn't democratic' is the most worn, mealy-mouthed spin put out by remoaners. The referendum wording was about being 'in' or 'out' of the EU. The people who voted 'out' knew what they were voting for in the context of the referendum. They wanted out of the EU. How supremely arrogant of you to state 'that they didn't'.

At best it was a blind leap of faith.

Remember all the talk about "the fastest and bestest trade deals will be signed in an instant", the stronger economy (ie on basis a £350m odd a week extra can be found for the NHS not to mention all manner of possible future relationships with the EU?

so a held election in the UK with a simple REMain or LEAVE question voted for by 8-1 in the HOC was not democratic...... with a pre election debates all over the media = utter rubbish.....
I and the rest who voted OUT knew what they were voting for as those who chose to vote REMAIN, and lost = sore losers.......

So you voted for us all to be poorer?

Do you mean this smokescreen? :D
a ruse designed to disguise someone's real intentions or activities.

"he tried to create a smokescreen by quibbling about the statistics"

No just out I did not see richer or poorer on the ballot paper TBH.......

I'll just accept your answer as "no you wouldn't have voted for it" then and accept your concession that there are varieties of Leave that some Leave voters do not want and would not have voted for, and by extension your admission that Leave voters didn't know what they were voting for.

Thanks for playing, good night.
