Do you need me to ban you from the thread Joe to ensure your abstinence is maintained?
Like John Bercow now hey Bruce-
Trade with the EU matters a lot, but slightly less than it used to
About 44% of UK exports in goods and services went to other countries in the EU in 2017—£274 billion out of £616 billion total exports.

That share has generally been declining, since exports to other countries have increased at a faster rate.

The EU’s share of the world economy has been declining too. In particular, the developing world has been growing faster than the developed world and is expected to continue doing so. .......

You're giving me a headache Joe. You did say you weren't going to post here any more though, which I think did you good.

So surely that shows how utterly false this idea of "we need to control our own trade to deal with the rest of the world more" is?

But to share in that growth, we need to have decent trade deals mate. Not WTO stuff cos that jams up our ability to actually do trade deals. Thats why folk do trade deals; WTO terms are largely crap.

We already trade with the WTO on the EU behalf they do it for us- we are not independent to strike better deals......

What do you mean, "better" deals? You honestly reckon Japan will give the UK a better deal than the EU one?

If so, why?

we do not trade with the WTO, joey

nor does the EU
Really -
European Union or Communities?
Since 1 December 2009 “European Union” has been the official name in the WTO as well as in the outside world. Before that, “European Communities” was the official name in WTO business for legal reasons, and that name continues to appear in older material.

The EU is a WTO member in its own right as are each of its 28 member states — making 29 WTO members altogether.

While the member states coordinate their position in Brussels and Geneva, the European Commission — the EU’s executive arm — alone speaks for the EU and its members at almost all WTO meetings and in almost all WTO affairs. For this reason, in most issues, WTO materials refer to the “EU” (or previously the legally-official “EC”).

yes, Joey - really

We are a member of the WTO, as is the EU. We do not trade with it, as you claimed.
