For me personally, I have never ever said that I want a no deal. In fact I have said exactly the opposite countless times because I think it will be painful for the country both economically and logistically. I am also the one person on this whole forum who was in favour of the May deal, not because I thought it was a good deal but I believe a deal is the only way that we can bring the country back together again. The deal has to be a compromise by both sides so nobody can be seen to be the winner, and I believe that May's deal was just that.

Agree that a compromise has to be made but when was May's deal ever this? 3 years ago her deal (coming out of single market) was classed as a hard Brexit.

Norway was always the compromise.

Read my post again.

I never said people want a no deal. I said they would now accept a no deal over a no brexit. Two completely different things. I'm oretty sure people would still prefer a deal. There just isn't one on the table.

there is though

I personally would have taken Norway as a compromise. Anything to get it through tbh so we could move forward and start mending the country.

But anyway, in May's deal the backstop was practically the same as Norway. UK in the Customs Union with NI also in the Single Market. That was the default until a deal was sorted. A deal that was to be voted on by Parliament. There was always going to be more chance of getting a softer future relationship through because the "remain" element out numbered the hard line ERG & DUP by 3-1, and in the meantime you had the backstop terms indefinitely.

Mays deal took England, Scotland and Wales out of the single market and ended freedom of movement, this is not practically the same as Norway.

I would always have accepted a Norway option and even now if I had a magic wand and could make exactly what I want happen I would choose Norway over another ref and remain. This whole nonsense has to end.

My own personal red line on this is freedom of movement though, if that stays I'm onboard (hence my pedantry above).

I don't have any red lines anymore. I just want it done.

But I doubt there are many Brexit supporters who would agree with me on that and I suspect most would not want freedom of movement to continue. That would probably be their red line.

That’s odd. As all I hear from them is that a vote for leave ‘wasn’t about immigration’.

Possibly the best solution.
