Would have been better had they smashed stuff up and set fire to things.

I don't recall suggesting that. Just think that it seemed like a largely pointless day out for the FBPE brigade, complete with chants about Corbyn that were also side-splitting. Maybe however I'm wrong, and the zany signs will work and everything will be fine. We all put the kettle on and have a good old chortle. And that woman's dog can get it's own skiing show.

Nobody who has given it much thought could actually want to leave with no deal, so it's clear to me that, the best result for both sides of the channel would be an orderly withdrawal, which is what the deal on the table gives us. No it isn't going to give us everything we want, and there has to be a large amount of trust involved as regards the backstop, but for me it's the only way forward if we are to leave. The alternative is to remain, and all that will do is extend the inevitable and in the meantime the two sides drift further apart. And I'm talking EU and UK here, not remain/leave, although that will happen too no doubt.

Likewise mate. Quite bizarre yet somewhat enticing, the eternal wrangling between remainers and leavers quite a few of them not wanting to give an inch.

Especially if you were living in the UK; it should have been clear that the political/administrative elite has been checking out from Brussels for ages. It’s not hard to see what your politicians have been up to. All very accessible on the EP site/and similar.

And now they are suddenly springing into action. You would think that during one of the previous years somebody could have initiated a period of self-reflection, and said: “look what our elected politicians are doing”. So as a result my sympathy for a lot of remainers (especially the prominent ones) is a bit limited.

(again) Apart from on a personal level; like if you have a EU-spouse, if you see your dreams thwarted by Brexit (e.g: something simple as having to pay third country university fees), you’re undergoing cancer treatment etc…

They lack positive stories. Even now really. Well I suppose you have those that say; “we will stay in and reform the EU” – then I think no you won’t history has shown that, it’s a national speciality to make every form of reform difficult. Some of those placards during their march were somewhat funny though; like the one in the post above with the dog and passport stating ‘you tell him he can’t go skiing next year’- I think it’s amusing but I suppose if you’re poor that doesn’t exactly speak to you. The leavers (not all obviously) annoy me mostly because they reach different levels of spreading fake rumours/lack of knowledge.

I just wish though that those that are malcontent start blaming the correct culprit: largely your elected politicians. Probably won’t stop most the keep voting the same though. Mind you, a two-party voting system isn’t for me. Since I was 18 I have very rarely voted for the same party. Most of the time I also differentiate between the levels. Communal / Provincial / Community / Regional /Federal/European.

I suppose you could argue that the U.K is London/England centric, but that’s not a matter for the E.U. Go for a state-reform/independence vote/you name it. Can imagine the frustration, if e.g: you’re living in NI, and then you get this forced upon you. Mind you if you live there I don’t think you should have had high hopes in the first place; I mean you have to endure gaffs like getting Karen Brady as your state secretary (unaware of voting on sectarian lines …) – send their best obviously.

Ps: if you’re interested in a job for the EU, you can always apply here – all welcome: https://epso.europa.eu/home_en . In addition, they employ @Bruce Wayne from time to time.

It's hard enough getting out of a mobile phone contract
Very unrelated, apologize in advance but the EU has actually made it easier to get out of mobile phone contracts. EU consumer law is very well developed. One of the things that somewhat irks me is that a lot of people are unaware. Like in some discount retail stores; when you buy a television and they try to sell you an unnecessary additional insurance since it's already covered etc...

Man with sign
@Armel

The European jersey actually indirectly ruined it for van Aert.

One million people marching about a single issue is never pointless. We are still a democracy - a number like that has some power; it's the sheer scale of it.

It will be interesting to see if the power the numbers have harnessed makes any real difference or dent in anything. However with placards like "Thank you Marina Hyde" it's fair to say I'm slightly sceptical.

Individual placards and signs, no, of course not. But the actual number does, will and has - it's been noted in parliament by Theresa May today. The 50 nutjobs marching to leave has not.

Of course not. But as someone who voted remain myself I still fail to see why those "nutjobs" who voted to leave would need to march through central London if they've already won.

I'm not talking about the County Combination if that's what you think mate. I'm talking about the I Zingari Combination which was for reserve teams and "old boys".

The I Zingari league itself was a decent standard. But I would say the County Comp was the better of the two as it had teams like the Dock, St Doms, and Uniasco who were always very strong. My team played in both leagues but I'd finished playing by the time we got to the County Comp.

...I had to look at the thread title to see if I was in the right place.

Except that it wasn’t one million, more like 3-400k. A big number, granted, but not much more than the countryside alliance march which was of a similar size......

The marchers where from every walk of life, every political persuasion. A true cross section of the British public. The British public as I see it consists of more than a few bellends and hipsters lots of people who think they’re being clever but in fact they’re not really. But the march also had a lot of genuine people with serious concerns about Brexit.

So my view is I’m happy that I took part and had my say. Will it make a difference? I have no idea, but I felt that I had to do something. I couldn’t just sit around and do nothing, and that’s how many people I spoke to felt.

For the same reason the nutjobs haven't accepted May's version of Brexit and moved on. They're nutjobs. Leave means Leave except for when it doesn't mean Leave.

Don't get me wrong, of course you'll have the counter-balance of Remain nutjobs who think Europe is God and won't hear any criticism of the EU project, but the 'Gammonball Run' really is a wonderful visual of how the lunatics have run the asylum over the last few years.
