It's funny isn't it? Marco Silva will likely get sacked for buying duff players, yet when the government are the buyer, it's always the supplier that's at fault. The fact is though that when we buy something from Carillion, we can go somewhere else if we're not happy. People are massively unhappy with this government and can do the square root of bugger all about it. Freeeeeedom.

yeah, as if everyone is lining up to share their sympathies with poor Chris Grayling. the poor thing, how could he have know there were no ships

we literally have a thread called 'scummy tories' which routinely and at great length highlights the utter stupidity of this sort of ideologically-driven outsourcing

do you even read what other people post here?

do you even read your own posts??

So we're to believe that Chris Grayling would do a good job of running Eurotunnel or P&O? For real?

So we're to believe that Chris Grayling would do a good job of running Eurotunnel or P&O? For real?

?? how did you end up there?

no, he would almost certainly do a terrible job.

but he would be right at home in the Carrillion boardroom, or at Northern Rock or RBS - so lets not pretend that it's only the state that's somehow incompetent.

believe it or not, most people would prefer the government to work properly, hence the thousands of posts bemoaning the tories' deliberate sabotage, and hence the blacklash against paying people uncompetitive wages to perform vital tasks, like teaching, which none of us could function without

i don't understand why this is so hard for you to grasp

I've never made such a suggestion. The point is, what can you (the end user) do when you encounter incompetence? In a functioning market you can buy elsewhere, but in a monopoly (which is what a nationalised industry is), you're screwed. "Oh but you can use your 1 in 30 million vote to get rid of them at the next election". Well bring out the bunting.

Why? We say the government are incompetent and therefore can't buy decent suppliers or oversea a competent tendering process, so the answer is to nationalise that sector so they run everything instead?
The man you are using as an example will be involved heavily in the private sector very shortly I'm sure. It's a silly argument and you know it, come on now

This is the real libertarian nonsense, the idea that competition creates quality, it's a race to the bottom and a completely unregulated one if the libertarians had their way.

Quite possibly, and one would hope that if he did a similar job there his employer would go bust. If he remained in government then they'd just print more money and round we go again.

I've never said things shouldn't be regulated. Heck, I've been a fervent advocate for the EU, as that's a massive role they play.

What amazes me is just how confident they appear, despite being completely and utterly clueless. David Davis was the epitome, but Fox, Johnson and May have all suffered from it as well. I'm not at all surprised that @Armel says many in Europe are sick to death of us, as that's exactly how I'd feel if I had to put up with morons like that for the last two years.
David Davis is the epitome of a Bombastic imbecile. His confidence in his in ability and charisma far outweighs his intelligence.
