  1. No, they got whupped ultimately.
  2. You are joking! The last thing I want to do is forget about that UK (shared) victory in May 1945. Whatever are you thinking about, JEBUS? It's history. It's over. We move on.
Now, what have I just been listening to? Oh yeah, 'Won't back down' by Tom Petty. Teresa May's present signature tune. I told ya, the soddin' songs are everywhere! :D
I'm clearly joking.

What about Freefallin' by Tom Petty another strangely apt description.

Do you know the story behind that @Joey66 ?
Just looked it up,remembered a documentary on him I seen years ago - which may have been biased, but yes he came up with the concept with no financial backing from our RAF and government backing.
He could not afford the patent of a mere £5- yet the German government backed their scientist on the Jet engine - He was awarded honours later on in his life as he was involved in later development of the jet engine which by then went worldwide.....
I remember in my Junior school we had a house with whittle along with Hilary, Nelson etc so he did get fame eventually..

I meant why the US ended up owning the trademark/royalties.

if you aren't joking with joey ,
We sent the first whittle engine used in flight over to USA in 1941,
They used General Electrics labs who improved it by changing the old compressor( it worked similar to the one in vacuum cleaners) to axial flow compressor which takes in air one direction and pushes it out the other end in a different direction with more force, more powerful and more reliable ,( think a dyson cyclone vacuum cleaner v a normal one ) .
GE then developed the j 47 which more or less cornered the market in airlines after the war, so hence how they got the patents/ royalties boxed off, not the most scientific explanation but hope you get the drift mate.
ps the theory up of using steam to jet out of a tube to propel a vehicle was thousands of years old Hero of alexandria wrote about it but they couldn't produce the force needed to get it to work obviously .

Well for the sake of the people that work there let's hope so. But even if May's deal gets ratified we will be in the same position in March 2021. This time it will be we haven't found a workable situation to not avoid using the backstop and you'll have one side calling for an immediate hard exit and another calling for a new vote/renegotiation etc. Bottom line is we won't get to a place where we have a clear understanding of what will happen in time.

Hopefully we will leave with no deal in a few weeks time......
