That isn’t the case for Lexit though; that is about the anti-democratic structures of the EU (about which they have a point) and the way those structures are reforming Europe (about which they also have a point, especially over things like the investor dispute resolution mechanism increasingly found in trade deals).

Amidst the disaster of Brexit it should never be forgotten that the EU is in urgent need of reform if it is ever going to survive, let alone prosper - and by reform I mean that it benefits the EU and it’s citizens, not Macronism that has no other effect than making the Le Pens of this world electable.

Sorry. You’ve confused me there. Don’t understand what you mean by saying that isn’t the case for Lexit? The feeling of anti-democracy within the EU is at the core of any Lexit vote?

Agree though that the EU needs reform. My only point was that it makes little sense to rip up a rule book because you feel it’s undemocractic or simply unfair only to hand the job of making new rules to the Conservative and Unionist Party of the U.K. (who will defiantly be worse).

The will.of the people, lets just get on with it

The tories have been planning on replacing this Act with one of their own for over a decade now. The replacement will likely mean less red tape so quicker criminal-court turnarounds, longer jail-times for serious crime and less obligations towards certain foreign migrants or refugee claimants.

I suppose it's a matter of debate whether this would be an improvement or not. I don't quite get what that emotive tweet is trying to imply.

The genuine Lexit crowd, yes (rather than the “we have to take into account the northern working class’s aversion to immigration” clowns, which includes a worryingly large number of Labour MPs).

As you say it (Lexit) doesn’t really make sense given the likely end result and the likely consequences of leaving Europe to its own devices, though their assessment of the EU as it is currently set up is not wrong.

Read quite a few studies this year suggesting that those with the most extreme views, whether on politics, science, climate change etc., think they have the best knowledge on the respective topic, but actually have awful knowledge on it. As if that's not bad enough, their undue confidence renders them both unlikely to seek out new knowledge or be open to receiving it should they come across it.

It's a good job that doesn't apply to anyone on here :coffee:

Rediculous Mays deal was voted out by our MPs on the ballot paper it should read -
Leave with a deal
or leave on WTO rules .....
That's as biased as your suggestion........
My suggestion had no bias in mind Joey,Parliament have rejected May's deal.In a true democracy the people should at least have an opportunity to reject it themselves. (I would)

Why it's as dead as a DoDo it's incredulous to think a remainer could put that on the ballot paper even after our sovereign parliament has overwhelmingly rejrected it - it's the type of thing the EU would do to get their own way....!

In another, more sane, world being the first black female MP, going to Cambridge, getting near the top of her party and increasing her majority at most elections might be considered evidence that she is not inept as a politician.
Surely her colour should make no difference, also she was given one of the safest seats Labour have, having always held it since it's creation in 1950.And what specific good is a lower second in history to a politician?

Hardly getting your "own way" by giving the voters the opportunity to vote on a deal without all of the under the table dealing and the party political pressures exerted in Parliament.

It's already been leagaly rejected stop posting guff - no way would that question be on the ballot paper if we were to have a 2nd referendum... which tha Labour leader and the PM do not want......
Again if we do it shoul be. Deal or out on WTO rules.....

It was voted on by Parliament, sadly there is so much self interest and underhand dealing going on there,it makes sense to include it in any new Peoples vote there may or may not be.If your so sure it's dead in the water, why so strident?

The wheels are coming off our Government and the whole Brexit process.
Someone with integrity and a spine needs to call time-out.
The current situation is ridiculous and completely untenable - our Parliament is at war with itself. This is no longer about debate, it's about collective sanity, or insanity.Surely going back to the People is the only sane alternative?

Incidentally, I've seen a few Tories going on about Gove's speech, and specifically his comment about an extra £394 per week for the NHS, and how this is slightly more than the bus. I might be getting muddled here, but May actually announced £20bn extra funding for the NHS at the back end of last year, which yes, if you spread that over 1 year would be about what Gove suggests, but the £20bn is actually over 5 years, which would make it around £78m extra. Either Gove is talking out of his 'arris again, or I've missed an £80bn funding announcement for the NHS somewhere?
