I moved to Derry four years ago, from Liverpool. It feels like the whole island has been destabilised in the course of a single day. Couldn't believe the parties here supporting Leave. Blind, stupid, clueless. People feel cut adrift.

We are at an advantage as we have a special dispensation on the rest of the UK as we have been allowed to cut our corporation tax to 12.5% in 2018. The lowest level in the UK. Investment will still come.

Nobody is claiming it has been well thought through. Doesn't mean all we can do is cross our fingers and hope for the best though - it has happened and we all have to deal with it. Complaining that this or that would or wouldn't have happened if we has remained won't make one jot of difference now. We need to be pragmatic and have some faith in ourselves moving forward.
Johnson has now said that other than European law he expects no change. The result was not overwhelming. Does anybody know what they voted for? Yes they do. Do the out politicians know what they stood for? No. Shambles, shambles. In the meanwhile zillions has been wiped off the value of stocks all around the world. The leaders of leave are nutcases who have conned the public.

I hope that makes you feel better, but pointing all these things out is unlikely to make any difference to the result.

So with Boris' latest comments it's becoming glaringly obvious that the leave camp have no intention of actually leaving us out of the single market, and with that goes any hope of curbing EU immigration. Without the promise of curbing EU immigration there never would have been a leave vote.

The entire electorate has been lied to and the referendum has been exposed as a complete sham.

Can't wait to see the fume from the backwater racists in this country when they realise they've been used as a vehicle for the Boris Johnson leadership campaign. Hilarious and disgusting in equal measure.

Johnson has his fingers crossed that the EU will act first and demand that the UK propose Article 50. That way, when/if things go belly up, he can blame the EU for forcing the UK too quickly into leaving. I think he is getting cold feet.

just blame all the BREXITERS.... the majority of the UK.

No. But you can begin to see the outcome will be different from what people think they voted for. How many times have they got to wave your wallet in your face until you realise you have been robbed? I accept the vote although I disagree, but the voters have been conned and that should not be acceptable to anybody.

Spot on!

That Guardian comment is getting widespread attention, but in reality I think it's also possible to look at Cameron's non-invocation as a real opportunity. Don't forget that Boris' original position was that this referendum would only be the start of a renegotiation with the EU - and that only a "no" vote would get the attention of EU leaders such that a true discussion over changing terms can take place.

I don't think it's outwith the realms of feasibility that, behind closed doors, our leaders could talk to Merkel and co and get a promise to have a new treaty that aims to return some sovereignty to member states (not the UK alone, but everyone) - and a permanent delay to the triggering of Article 50 would pass parliament. In the meantime - we stay in, and nothing changes.
This has surely been the whole point of the "Leave" campaign from day one. The EU has gouged us for so much cash for so long that we are now such a big net contributor they can't survive our departure.

When Cameron came back from the last round of negotiations he had secured the best he could without threatening to leave - a threat he could not credibly make. Now the mandate to make that threat has been given, our negotiating position has strengthened massively. Angela Merkel has already been quoted saying that she does not approve of any type of punitive terms on the UK and that she wants us to be a "special trading partner" of the EU if we do leave - loosely translated this means "If you go, Germany will probably have to make a further net contribution a year of around £2bn to £3bn AND persuade France, Holland, Spain, Italy and Belgium to cover the other £5bn or so between them. The mere request will trigger riots in France and calls for referenda in France and Holland."

That's the whole point of this referendum: it doesn't guarantee we HAVE to leave, but it allows us to credibly threaten to do so if we don't get a better deal on reforming the EU.
