Isn't it a coincidence that those figures are pretty similar to those produced now to project how a no deal Brexit would impact the country? Hammond has said as much a few months ago. The forecasts are produced by the Office for Budget Responsibility, who are non-departmental and independent. Their very job is to provide budget forecasts. So that's not a lie, that's a projection made by a body the government created specifically to make such projections!

That is the exact quote that Boris lied about. At the time, I think it's a fair comment to make. Peace in Europe is always fragile, and many unsavoury sorts were banging the drum for Brexit. The vote to leave was quickly followed by Trump's election, and France were within a whisker of electing Le Pen. We've already seen far right leaders elected in Austria, Poland, Hungary and Czech, and so a political decision in Britain that was led in large part by those on the far right could scarcely be seen as supporting peace and goodwill in Europe, can it? And that's before we even get onto the Irish border.
Regarding universities, it's taken two years to get any kind of direction from the government, so how is it lying if they say they currently get a lot of funding, involvement in collaborative research and free movement of research talent, and all of those things are put at risk by leaving the EU? For two years all of those things were still at risk, and until the ink is dry on a settlement, I would say all three still are.
