If you find it difficult to understand the reasons why, then doesn't that go some way to beginning to understand why a chunk of the working class fell for the 'milk and honey promised land' and rationalised it around the 'blame game''take 'our' country back' etc..

The post 1945 agreement - the state will look after you from cradle to grave - has been ruthlessly smash and left some people feeling that they have no hope, no future. And along comes Boris et al and promise them 'milk and honey promised land' hope and they fell for it. But they will not be able to deliver the 'milk and honey'.

Indeed, but the reason I'm confused is because I genuinely gave people a lot more credit in terms of common sense in this country. They weren't even subtle lies, they were blatant ones.

Sure, you'll always have the oddball few who hate the establishment or are plain racist, but the amazing thing for me is how many 'normal' people fell for it.

Why couldn't they see that the Tory austerity has done them far more harm in recent years than the EU ever could, for example? Why vote for more of it, because if you connect the dots that's exactly what has happened - we've voted for a recession and a more right wing Tory party in charge.

Just... weird.

UKIP lies Friend.

Not necessarily Tory ones.

That's so totally untrue.
Its actually not, that's my opinion right or wrong that's how I see it, like your decision and how you see it is not right or wrong.
I wont convince you and you want convince me no matter what we say....;)

But don't we always get lied to at elections so this one was no different. If some people find their world hard to understand and they are feeling the pinch then they will look for 'easy answers' like 'blame this or that'.

Institutions fail because of the quality (or lack of) their management. They make poor decisions based on innacurate information and poor strategic thinking.

As a nation we are inheriting the consequences of years of poor management from our politicians.

I was at a dinner once where someone said "think of the 20 brightest people you know and how many of them are politicians?" At the time I thought it was an arrogant statement but given how the country has been managed probably going back as far as the end of the Wilson government and I think there's a point.

Weve elected lightweights for many years because that's all that politics can attract. We're now suffering the consequences.

Sound post, although i'm not convinced of the validity of your last paragraph. The party cartel and selection processes may play a significant role.

It is blatantly untrue mate.

Like the missing Kenwright-esque Arteta money:

£350million per week

....and by extension, the wrong sort of person has entered politics, those looking to promote their own self-interest and not the national good.

So. Resignations in both parties, the top dog has gone and it's all caving in. Is this the very definition of success then?
