It depends on what May thinks she can achieve. I have no doubt that faced with messing up a deal with the EU and also allowing Corbyn into Office, thus giving her an unenviable place in history, she will do the practical thing and tell the EU to do one.........

Do you genuinely believe that a hard Brexit is a Brexit that best encompasses the national mood?

I think we have to be realistic about this.

The likely outcome of this is that the Tories will fall to the militant ilk of the ERG, and will likely force us to drop out of the EU without a deal.

No opposition party wants that, nor do many Conservative MPs, so there could be a motion of no confidence put into the government before November. If the opposition fails in forcing a general election, then it's only right for those opposed to a hard Brexit to then shift the decision back to the people.
God knows what will happen next .
The EU haven't given her any wiggle room, and might have made a mistake of over playing there hand.
Could backfire badly if she spins it ,well we tried but, they humiliated me.
The Tories will get slaughted in an election if they gave in any more as people will feel betrayed.
Labour can make hay by saying look they made a mess of Brexit and let the people down when it came to it.
Couldn't call it myself which way it would go, as May has a habit of muddling through to the next disaster episode and surviving like a real life Jonny English
