Hard Brexit would work better for us based solely on the trade deficit? Seriously? So all of the economists are wrong and Methuselah has nailed it with a one liner about the deficit? The Govts own forecasts have a no deal Brexit costing the economy 8% growth over 15 years, with the North West taking a 12% hit.

You also ignored the surplus we have on services btw.

FLHD you seem to read posts without really understanding them. The trade deficit will force the EU elite to negotiate a realistic, mutually beneficial trade deal with the UK. Do you really think the EU member states are going to walk away from 80bn worth of trade just so the EU elite can bask in the glory of the EU project?

Dunno.

Seems a lunatic position to put ourselves into though. Will they wont they? Well thought out that. Played.

There will be no ‘cliff edge’ because our product trade with the EU is still only a small % of our GDP. The UK’s large and small businesses and pure internal U.K. trade will be affected minimally. The Remainers would have you believe the ‘bogeyman’ will come and eat you. It’s disgraceful nonsense based on their own fear of leaving their comfort zone or losing U.K. funding distributed by the EU. If we can recover from the decimation of the Second World War I’m pretty sure we will deal with differing EU trade arrangements. What Remainers always fail to mention is that ‘the trade won’t go away’ for either the U.K. or the EU, and any minor adjustments will have both positive and negative effects for both sides resulting in sod all of nothing........

Paper from the University of Bath saying that small businesses are generally both clueless about the EU regulations that influence them, and how they might need to change after Brexit. Not suggesting it'll be like Mad Max, but equally it's surely naive to say there will be no disruption, or that it won't have an impact.

They need us more than we need them....yeah we’ve heard that one before I think.

What was it again, oh yeah, Merkel would be on the phone the day after the vote begging for a deal due to the German car industry. How did that go?

13% of our GDP vs 3% of theirs btw. Pesky facts again.

In seriousness, I can't help but enjoy this.

Was told countless times that the Labour Party were unelectable, and that we'd never see power for as long as we still to our principles.

How the tide has changed.

To be honest, it's a two horse race, and the other horse is performing like Sam Allardyce. It's not really a blowing of trumpet situation.

You still don't get it do you FLHD. It won't be Merkel on the phone it will be the Chief Execs of BMW, Audi etc., and the Trade Unions of the laid off workers. Also, nothing was ever going to happen the day after the vote. Trade hasn''t even been discussed yet. Keep up.

Been giving some thought to this today, whilst delivering a van full of parcels from all over the globe. I get a delivery of 1/2 dozen sacks at about 8.00am, trucked overnight from a London hub, then sorted by a largely foreign workforce at the Bristol depot.

So if we have a hard brexit, will every single trade agreement need to be in place the next day to allow the seamless import of said goods into Heathrow? Or into Amazon UK hubs?

And if not, what will happen?

You seem to have fallen into the Trumpian trap of believing a trade deficit to be a bad thing.

The boss of BMW said that their UK plants are at risk because of leaving?? I suppose he was playing it coy and was really terrified or something.
