You'll get no argument from me that the EU is wasteful in various ways. Most governments are. That is outweighed tenfold however by the benefits we reap from a continent that attempts to work together on things rather than fighting one another as we have for 99% of the continent's history. It's much better, imo, to work on the flaws rather than throw that very nice baby out with the bath water because that blabbering idiot Johnson will get us into all sorts of hot water without getting so much as his own big toe wet.
The EU formed itself it will hopefully destroy itself - utter waste of money - good for a trading block if the rules are fair they trade worldwide at our cost end of!

Explain to me how it "formed itself"?

The original formation of the EEC was to help Europe rebuild. The countries worst affected by the war decided to help each other. Britain saw it as good idea and were even part of the initial conversations. The signing of coal and steel community and the atomic energy commission were all to help each other. Britain didn't get involved with either of those because of their concerns with super nationalism. They had other concerns. They were not against it but at the time decided to pass.

Anyway going further back you realise Churchill had the idea for a United states of Europe after the war right?

Churchill is credited as being one of 11 founding father of the EU.

After the Hague congress which discussed the future of Europe the council of Europe (not part of the EU) was created which Britain was a founding member off.

Britain's had a hand in the European Movement International group and the then formed college of Europe.

Britain was also asked to join the talks for the treaty of Rome (57) and Paris (51) leading up to the signing of the EEC but because of concerns mentioned above.

Once the EEC was then formed Britain did look to join but we turned down by DeGaulle twice. It literally begged the third time in the 70's to join and where accepted because degaulle had gone in 69.

At the time of inception and through the years it has done a lot of good.

Issues nowadays aside, making sweeping statements like you made show your ignorance in the subject and ultimately its all about disdain for you so you cannot see the good.

Like many have pointed it out its not perfect and yes there are things to be fixed but you clearly are purely against it and don't care about anything it has done positively.

Your first sentence - EEC was not the EU - the only vote on the EU we have had and we decided to get out I voted yes in the other two referendums -
Last night's tv on channel 4 million on Coffee machines - 7000 staff - waste of space!

Not sure if that was directed at me seen as you quoted yourself.

I did not say the EEC was not the EU. They are one in the same. The EEC was renamed to the EU. I looked over what i typed and its not something i said. Especially not my first sentence.

For the record this was my first sentence:
Explain to me how it "formed itself"?

4m on coffee machines for an organisation that large is probably normal i am guessing. Sounds expensive i'll admit, but they probably have high capacity machines too, which have service contracts i'd imagine.

So they like coffee who cares? Incidentally the average Briton spends up 2000 a year on coffee if not more. It's the same here in the US and probably the same in Europe too.

They have an office budget like every other company and organisation and chose to spend it on that. Maybe to make their people happy and comfortable and not waste time standing in line. They also conduct many meetings so its probably necessary.

Who knows their reasons? Unless the show explained it and how they came to that decision of course.

The UK government has to decide whether it is better to stand with the EU against Trump's trade war aggression or try and suck up to Trump. Looks like a lose lose for the UK. It is looking more and more like the majority of those in UK government don't want to leave the EU umbrella, because on its own protecting its trade looks decidedly very, very slim.

Its ok mate. Remember, all these shiny new super duper trade deals with the rest of the world will save us.

They are that great, they are kept secret.

It formed what did the UK public have any input?
No treaties were signed with the UK public voting on them - then we had a referendum OUT won by 1.5 million votes it was not as close as remoners make out only the rich want to stay in it!
THE EU - evolved when did they last audit their books........

Solid case for the prosecution there...
That's why Italy & France want out - the EU are doing the best to keep us in......
documentary on BBC 4 about horticultural farming - the british loved doing the work until we joined the EU - the myth that UK citizens will not do the horticultural side of work was blown out of the water in most cases they worked for their keep - then it showed you mountains of food imported we did not need so we cut our orchards down - tragic to watch BBC 4 SAT iplayer it watch it and see!
@Bruce Wayne

Thats the bottom line of the waste Bruce 4 million on coffee machines - I voted on freedom of the lunacy and institution of the EU , and what they did to Greece!

What did they do to Greece? As I understand it, Greece needed a lot of money to bail out its economy. Lenders weren't exactly queuing up to give them money as the prospects for repayment weren't great. The EU lent them money, but with conditions that they reform their economy. The Greeks accepted this, before then moaning that the conditions were bad for them.

As with us, it's convenient for the Greeks to blame the EU as it deflects attention from the very real failures they themselves have made.

Lets be honest Joe. Had the UK volunteered a bit more money than it did to the EU bailout package, you'd have been the first in the queue bashing the EU for wasting our money on the Greeks and that we'd never get it back. You can't have it both ways.
