Hahaha.....but it does show just how insignificant some of the countries are.......enjoy giving money to the rest when we pull out......

You probably have no idea at all how big a bone of contention that is, certainly among many in the Visegrad countries. First ruled over by Austro-Hungary, then Germany, then Russia, all while Britain, France et al snorted that they were an insignificant people in a far away land with all the imperialistic arrogance that suggests. It is a major (quite possibly the major) reason for the rise of populists in the region, because the left behinds in those countries have been suckered in by politicians who say sod 'em, you aren't insignificant.

You've made your comfortable bed Pete, and fair play for doing so, but for many people, the vote for Brexit was the exact same thing. A vote to tell Westminster that they aren't insignificant either. They and their lives matter. Lest we forget, a great deal of blood has been shed to preserve that basic truth, that no one is insignificant as a result of their gender, race, religion or nationality.

Apologies Bruce, it was a wind up flippant remark aimed specifically at the poster to whom I responded, who keeps telling us how the big EU is going to teach the Brits a lesson.......

Incidentally Pete, I was at a roundtable thing this week with a whole bunch of data folk from big companies to talk about GDPR. Every single one will abide by GDPR even once we leave the EU and are no longer shackled to its rules and obligations, because it makes complete sense to do so. Not one of them whinged about it and demanded to take back control because the very notion of taking back control is so bloody juvenile as it ignores how the world works in a globalized society.

Most things will stay the same because we want them to stay the same. When there are sensible rules and standards we will be at the forefront of applying them, as we always have. I find it laughable that the Eu want to insist that the U.K. follow fishery protection laws etc, when it was the U.K. who historically were at the forefront of such laws. The notion of taking back control is not juvenile. Both France and the U.K. are deciding whether to bomb Syria, this is not an EU decision and none of the 27/28 has a veto or even a vote. This is having control. In the future however France will be part of the EU Army and will do as it is told by the 27, like it or lump it. Again, this is not juvenile, it is proper grown up......

Wind up or not, you are looking down your nose at others again which is standard tory behaviour.

Appalling coming from someone from Merseyside which has benefitted from the redistribution of EU funds.

But Britannia rules the waves or something.

These EU funds came from the U.K., we sent them to Brussels, they sent less of them back. Merseyside has received no funds that were generated by or were given as a gift from the EU.....it was our own money... you will find this out soon enough when you are a net contributor to the club........

Meanwhile, the EU are discussing a proposal to apply sanctions on Hungary, they’re good at that......

Strange comment straight out of fantasy land.

All I have ever said about the UK/EU relationship is that in time you will come to regret leaving. So less of the made up accusations please.

That's the problem i find with some of the brexiteers i have come across be they on here or elsewhere.

They have this belief that the EU wants to actually screw them and has done for the last 40 years. That its been one conspiracy by Germany and France to get one over on England and its kingdom.

Like they sit behind closed doors coming up with evil plans.

Then when they do show a little contempt towards Britain's handling of trying to leave the brexiteers use it to fuel said conspiracy.

Now, if you can predict the future like that, look into that crystal ball again (or whatever you use) and send me by PM the winning lottery numbers for this week-end. If you can't do that, then the bold point above has no credence whatsoever. It is pure conjecture on your part...
