The border wasn’t even considered by either Leave or remain. The EU is not fighting Ireland’s corner, it’s fighing its own corner and using the border as a chip in the negotiations. Let’s not be fooled into thinking that Westminster is playing nefarious games while the good and holy EU only has the best interests of the people in its mind.........

Not quite true. Warmonger Blair and John 'shirt in underpants' Major talked about the border and the Good Friday Agreement but were dismissed as 'scaremongering'. Kate Hoey, mentioned the border issue, and she made it clear that the UK would demand that the Irish government would take control of 'backdoor immigration into the UK'. Theresa May mentioned the border issue and said, 'if there is a vote to leave the EU then there would need to be border checks on goods and people on the island of Ireland'.

The border issue and the Good Friday Agreement was talked about by people in the north of the island of Ireland.

The fact that there was not a serious discussion/debate by those in England, Scotland and Wales shows how much 'consideration' there is for Northern Ireland. Now, the 'discussion' has been forced onto the likes of Johnson, Gove, Duncan Smith and Rees Mogg and they have been found wanting. Even trying to draw the contemptible 'conclusion' that 'the Good Friday Agreement has run its course'. All because it stands in their way and stops their interpretation of what leaving the EU should look like. The 'best interests of Northern Ireland' has always took a back seat to the main interests of the rest of the UK.

The Irish government have taken a confident line that is in the best interests of the vast majority of those on the island of Ireland. And that has rattled the likes of Johnson, Rees Mogg and Hoey who are used to generally getting what is in the UK's 'best interests' with Ireland. The UK Brexiteers threatened the Irish with a hard border if 'they don't control EU migrants coming onto the island of Ireland'. When that didn't work they tried to blame the EU.

Similarly, the UK has not put forward any proposals about the border 'issue' on the island of Ireland, they have handed 'control' over to the EU. Incredible. The Brexiteers are hailing the EU 'Smart Border 2' proposals without understanding how many of the proposals are not compatible with the Good Friday Agreement. The upshot is that Northern Ireland will have special status unless the UK government reneges on the GFA and repeals the Northern ireland Act 1989.

I don’t know why anyone would mind us leaving. Mind you if the EU consisted just of just the top 5 or even top 10 economies, I might not mind being a part of it........

Hardly an uncommon distribution though is it Pete? I dare say if you broke down UK GDP/contribution to the exchequor you'd get a similarly lopsided distribution, with mostly remain voting cities at the top. Should we kick out all the 'left behind' leave voting towns?

Incidentally Pete, I was at a roundtable thing this week with a whole bunch of data folk from big companies to talk about GDPR. Every single one will abide by GDPR even once we leave the EU and are no longer shackled to its rules and obligations, because it makes complete sense to do so. Not one of them whinged about it and demanded to take back control because the very notion of taking back control is so bloody juvenile as it ignores how the world works in a globalized society.

Deja vu of me pointing this out too. Percentage based - the UK gives less of it's GDP towards the EU than just about any other country. Not writing all that again, but if memory serves me correct, the 16% the EU GDP that the UK gives amounts to 8% of the UK's own GDP (I might be 1% or so off here), so in reality it's not that much comparatively.

But who cares, we can't vote again. At least that's what the reply was at the time :)

And in case you forgot, we voted OUT ;)

I think we discussed this before and decided that the wealth centres couldn’t actually operate without the ‘left behind’ providing water, power and food. If the cities closed down tomorrow the rest of the country would only know because you’d all be out scavenging for food, if the rest of the country closed down tomorrow the cities would be dead within a week......

I disagree. Once free from the shackles of the left behinds, we wealth creators can trade with the world and get our food, water and power from everywhere.

Nice try Bruce.....I reckon within 24 hours London would be a complete mess, no power, no banking, no underground, no water, no business, no money, restaurants out of food, supermarkets under siege, police and army deployed to the streets, project fear you see......meanwhile the rest of use would have no access to derivatives or shares, but don’t worry, we’ll get by......

A club for only the richest countries then with no distribution of wealth to the poorest regions of the EU which is one of its core functions.

It sounds like the real reason you want out is more to do with selfishness and your non-existent philantropic nature than anything else.

Hahaha.....but it does show just how insignificant some of the countries are.......enjoy giving money to the rest when we pull out......
