Well, I understand some of that, I think.

Fact is, there is a land border between the EU and the UK. Which the population of NI and ROI cherish as a non negotiable line in the sand.

So again, please explain what your solution to that riddle would be. That would be satisfactory to all 4 parties. NI, ROI, UK and EU.

I think "democracy" wont be quite enough. You alluded to anyone asking this reasonable question as having their head in the sand after all, so I am obviously missing the easy solution.

What is it?

Cos its a EU border?

Still waiting for a cogent response to this reasonably easy issue to resolve. Apparently. In your own time.

So what? It will have a land border blah blah blah, ergo open access, blah blah blah. Its a mess.

But easy to fix. Apparently.

But what does it have to do with various European bureaucrats in Brussels. I mean really, why do they need to be involved...this is a gilt edged reason why I want out.......

Yet Southern Ireland work closely with the UK like the massive loan Gideon gave them after the banking crash while imposing severe austerity on the rest of the U.K.

A loan with massive interest. So the UK earns on the loan. What's your point?

Also in Osborne's own words it was "The details of the entire package, not just the UK contribution but the eurozone and IMF contribution"

Remember the UK is still an EU member and defo was in 2010. So their vested interest was not letting the Euro collapse and especially not the ecomony of one of its biggest trade partners in the EU.

Not sure what it has to do with borders though.

Troubles aside Britain and Ireland have always had good relations. So not sure what you are driving at.

And what if the ROI had not joined the EU as it only did so because the U.K. did. What if the ROI could not access NI because the EU said so, who would you blame, the EU or the U.K. ?

Not really an argument though is it?

Why to we have to deal in a hypothetical?

Simple answer is your scenario does not exist so why would anyone waste time answering it.

Wait, I'm confused, what has this got to do with how democratic the GFA is? or whether there was a border before the troubles?

Basically Joey, May has, foolishly, hedged her bets and tried to placate both the DUP and the Irish government by telling them what they want to hear.
She's hoping this tactic will keep the wolf from the door long enough to get some significant negotiations done.
but all parties realize there can't be an invisible border without giving NI special status, something she promised the DUP she wouldn't do.
They are attempting to put an invisible customs and immigration border between two economic blocks on the island, that's never been done before.

The ROI is in the EU.

Ergo, the reason this daft situation has arisen is cos we voted to leave. Ergo. Brexit.

That’s like saying the U.K. is in the EU, so maybe the EU should solve the issue. This is a Sovereign nation issue. The EU is neither Sovereign nor a Nation, again, what does it have to do with Germany, France, Italy, Poland etc etc if the U.K., NI and ROI agree on something.......

Then don’t if you are unable to........

Haha!! ok Pete good one. It does not apply that's why i wouldn't give an answer. Nor should anyone have to, why wonder what if something else happened. So to avoid answering the question yourself and to avoid coming up with an answer other than blaming or taking a pop at the EU as you always do. As always trying to be a smart ar**.

No its not, Its a current free trade and movement of people etc etc border either remaining as one, or not. Keeping it like that would be the same as *random EU state* having an open border with *random non EU country*

I either do or don’t, I don’t try....
