Both sides resorted to lies, not just one.

And the £350 million a week figure was a COMPARATIVE figure for illustration purposes, not a definite guarantee.

Not having any of that. The £350M was a massive, game-changing whopper - one that many afterwards expressed regret about falling for.

I think most leavers had nothing to lose, either because they were retired or because they were not doing well in the current system. As with all populist movements, they were promised a golden future that would be both an absolute doddle and a guaranteed certainty. They've been sold royally up the river.

That said, if the less-well-off hadn't been treated with such contempt by the ruling class of this ever-more unequal society, it's unlikely we'd be in this mess right now.

It was clearly used by the Brexit campaign and strongly implied on repeated occasions that the money would be used to fund the NHS.

The public were completely misled on this point, and to imply it was only used as a 'comparative' is totally disingenuous.

And here is a link showing one of the chief Brexit architects admitting they would never have won the referendum without the £350m for the NHS claim:

I voted remain mate, but a lot of leavers I speak to say their reasons for voting leave were immigration/bringing power back to the country, not one of them ever mentioned the £350m myth that was put out there by the brexit campaign. Obviously it played some part like.

For sure, I wouldn't question that things should have been done differently. Changes in population could have been managed differently by giving local authorities greater flexibility in funding so they could adapt easier. Education could change to support adult education more, and so on.

I'm very much of the opinion that all of these things could have been done without jerking us out of the EU. Indeed, they could arguably have been done much more effectively whilst still in the EU. What this appears to have been was an ideological move by sections of the Tory party under the auspices of helping people. I'd be amazed in ten years time if those people had been helped one iota by this move.

Unlike the financial apocalypse and WW3 that Remain foretold. Let’s at least be honest here, both sides told whoppers. Now was anyone on here persuaded by the £350M per week, no, nor the WW3 or apocalypse claim. We all knew what we needed to know about the vote, and to make sure the government sent every household a leaflet saying why it was a bad idea, and yet........

You are kidding yourself. There is no doubt that successive governments made a complete horlicks by allowing unfettered immigration even when Germany and co were limiting immigration from Romania etc. The subservient nature of doing whatever Brussels wanted and the creeping but incessant move towards a USE just pushed us over the edge....

At least we've finally got to the fact it was all 'dem foreigners that are the issue here and not any silliness about sovereignty. That was always the more socially acceptable smokescreen.

I will ask you though, what is about unfettered immigration that is such a problem?

I don’t have a problem with immigration. I have a problem with uncontrolled immigration, but my vote was due to my second sentence.......

Financial apocalypse and WW3? Where was that touted? Certainly not on the side of big red bus or on a massive racist billboard.

There were warnings from the remainers about the economic consequences to voting leave. To date many have come to pass. The pound has plummetted. The NHS is coming under strain from losing migrant workers. Businesses and banks are relocating or planning to relocate. Inflation has risen while wages have remained stagnant. Economic growth has slowed. House building has slowed down and prices of building a house have increased.

And, this is the important part, we HAVEN'T ACTUALLY LEFT THE EU YET.

Yeah, just keep telling yourself that.......

But we didnt have uncontrolled immigration. We had freedom of movement between EU countries. Like we have in the UK. It works both ways.

Probably the worst post ever in this thread.

How misguided can one person be...?
